    Description

    Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Co-Op to join our Material and Analytical Sciences department located at our Ridgefield, CT facility. As a Co-Op, you will expand your scientific skills, gain experience using state of the art equipment and insights on the drug development process.

    Duties & Responsibilities

    + **Investigate gelation mechanisms** through systematic experimentation and data analysis: your insights will shape future crystallization strategies

    + **Apply advanced solid-state techniques** like XRPD, DSC, TGA, and PLM to uncover how gel formation and hydrate stability evolve under different conditions

    + **Explore molecular interactions** to study how polarity, hydrogen bonding, and water activity influence gelation behavior across solvent systems.

    + **Design a decision-making framework** to build a practical protocol or decision tree helping scientists identify and mitigate gelation risks early in development.

    Requirements

    + Must be a current undergraduate, graduate or advanced degree student in good academic standing.

    + Student must be enrolled at an accredited college or university for the duration of the **co-op** .

    + Overall cumulative minimum GPA from last completed quarter/semester 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) preferred.

    + Major or minor in related field of **co-op** .

    + Undergraduate students must have completed at least 12 credit hours at current college or university.

    + Graduate and advanced degree students must have completed at least 9 credit hours at current college or university.

    **Eligibility Requirements** :

    + Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.

    + Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).

    + Must be 18 years of age or older.

    Desired Skills, Experience and Abilities

    + **Graduate students (PhD/MS)** in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, polymer science, pharmaceutical sciences or Biomedical Engineering.

    + **Exceptional senior undergraduates** with strong lab experience will also be considered

    + **Hands-on experience** with XRPD, DSC, TGA, PLM, and NMR

    + Comfortable with **Microsoft Office Suite**

    + **Self-driven and motivated** —ready to learn, explore, and conduct independent research

    + Candidates with experience in polymer are preferred

    + Candidates should have knowledge of organic chemistry (e.g. reaction, distillation, extraction, crystallization, filtration, drying)
