Job Description
Responsibilities:
• Conduct regular consultation meetings with clients to establish strong professional relationships and comprehensively understand their business challenges and project needs
• Identify and pursue new business opportunities through market research, networking, and leveraging existing client relationships
• Collaborate with several branch Project Sales Managers and their teams to identify, qualify, and develop complex opportunities within our existing client base of over 4,000 customers
• Lead technical qualification and engineering concept development for large-scale HVAC and electrical system opportunities across industrial, commercial, and public sector verticals
• Serve as the technical liaison between branch project teams and the Performance Solutions group, ensuring seamless integration of local market knowledge with advanced engineering solutions
• Develop detailed capital budgets and comprehensive financial analyses for performance-based projects, often exceeding standard branch project scope
• Conduct energy modeling and economic analyses to validate project feasibility and ROI for sophisticated multi-site or multi-system opportunities
• Create investment-grade technical audits and master planning documents for large-scale industrial and commercial facilities
• Design innovative solutions across multiple disciplines including HVAC, building automation, electrical power, and low-voltage systems
• Deliver persuasive technical presentations to executive stakeholders across diverse vertical markets
• Partner with vendors and subcontractors to develop optimal technical solutions for complex industrial and commercial applications- relationship building for intercompany vendors and subs to be a part of the overall project being presented/delivered
Day to Day:
As a Project Development Engineer within the Performance Solutions team, you'll serve as the technical cornerstone for our most sophisticated projects, working in close coordination with our branch network of 28 project sales representatives and their supporting teams of engineers, estimators, and project managers. This role goes beyond traditional engineering, combining advanced technical expertise with strategic business acumen to develop comprehensive building system solutions across our extensive geographic Midwest footprint. This person may be juggling anywhere from 4-6 opportunities at once which typically will take between 3-4 weeks up to 4-6 months for completion.

Skills and Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Engineering preferred)
• PE license
• 5+ years’ experience in HVAC/electrical systems design or energy solutions development
• Proven track record developing projects
• Strong proficiency with energy modeling software
• Trane Trace 3D+, Energy Plus, Design Builder, etc.
• Experience creating detailed proposals and financial analyses
• Demonstrated success in customer facing technical roles
• Willingness to travel throughout 11-state service territory
• Would primarily consist of day trips and up to 2 overnights per month • AutoCAD experience
• Experience with performance contracting and ESCO projects
• Building automation systems expertise
• Advanced certifications (CEM, CMVP, LEED AP)
• Previous experience working with industrial and large commercial clients
• Commissioning experience
