Operator Trainee I-III

The Ocean County Utilities Authority, a public wastewater treatment facility consisting of three treatment plants and 40 pumping stations, is presently seeking a Wastewater Treatment Operator Trainee. The position is located in West Creek, NJ. The trainee will be assigned to an operating shift and will learn to perform those duties associated with the safe, economical and continuous operation of both the treatment plant and collection system. The purpose of the position is to ultimately become a fully licensed wastewater treatment operator.

A high school diploma is required. An Associate’s degree in Environmental Science, Science or Biology is preferred. Ability to perform manual work involving dexterity, and often under adverse weather and working conditions. Ability to read meters, charts, and gauges and accurately maintain records of plant operations. Ability to read and comprehend written technical information and communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Must possess basic and applied math skills related to the operations process and be able to perform laboratory tests necessary to monitor and control plant processes. Must possess strong computer skills including spreadsheets, word processing, work order systems and email. Must be able to work rotating shifts, including weekends, holidays, on-call, emergency call (24/7), and overtime as required.

The Authority offers a starting hourly rate of $20.00 plus paid overtime and shift differential (this is a 24/7 operation, and the assigned shift rotates every three weeks).
