**Department:** Anatomic Pathology
**Location:** Ann Arbor, MI
**Status** : Full time, 40 hours a week
**Shift:** Mon-Fri 5pm-1:30am
**Minimum rate of pay:** $17.46
**Position Purpose** :
Perform all necessary procedures pertaining to accessioning and technical preparation of all pathology and cytology specimens. This individual must function with a high degree of technical expertise regarding handling of specimens to ensure accuracy of diagnoses made from specimens submitted for evaluation. Effectively and efficiently prioritizes workflow within the department. Uses the laboratory computer system and equipment.
Required Qualifications:
Education
+ High school diploma or equivalent required and two years college course work completed (40-60 credit hours) with emphasis in a science curriculum or equivalent with 12 hours Science credits preferred. Associates of Science, Applied Science (or similar) preferred.
Experience
+ One year experience working in Cytology Preparation and/ or Histology Processing preferred, with knowledge of medical terminology.
What you will do:
+ Picks up pathology specimens from various locations throughout the hospital and campus such as surgery, endoscopy, etc.
+ Full registration for outreach specimens with orders for Surg Path, Cytology and Molecular pathology procedures. Includes insurance entry and verification.
+ Responsible for proper handling, accessioning, and billing of all pathology specimens through entering data into the LIS computer application.
+ Assists with basic or designated Histology procedures.
+ Cleans and stocks all work areas.
+ Distributes slides and paperwork to cytotechnologists or pathologists as needed.
