Veterinary Assistant – Internal Medicine – Advanced Veterinary Specialists

Compensation range: $18.00 - $26.00 hr. primarily determined by role and experience level.

Advanced Veterinary Specialists, located in scenic Santa Barbara, is a premier specialty and emergency veterinary hospital committed to providing exceptional care to pets in need. We offer a range of specialized services, including internal medicine, surgery, cardiology, oncology, and emergency care, delivered by a team of dedicated professionals.

We are currently seeking a Veterinary Assistant to join our Internal Medicine team. The successful candidate will work closely with our board-certified Internists to provide high-quality care to patients with complex medical conditions.

As a Veterinary Assistant in the Internal Medicine department, you be responsible for the following duties:

+ Provide compassionate care and monitoring for animals admitted to the internal medicine department

+ Assist with a variety of diagnostic procedures

+ Communicate effectively with pet owners, offering guidance on their animal's condition and treatment options.

+ Maintain accurate medical records and ensure equipment is properly maintained and sterilized.

+ Assist veterinarians during procedures such as biopsies and aspiration cytology.

+ Collaborate closely with other veterinary professionals to provide comprehensive patient care.

+ Advocate for the well-being of patients, ensuring they receive appropriate care and treatment.

+ Other duties as assigned.

Compensation range: $18.00 - $26.00 hr. primarily determined by role and experience level.

Work schedule:

+ 4/10 work week, Friday & Saturday + 2 additional rotating days a week

+ Weekend and holiday flexibility required.

Basic required qualifications:

+ General understanding and experience with small animal restraint with a focus on cats and dogs

+ High school diploma

+ Calm, professional demeanor.

+ Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

+ Reliable time management and problem-solving skills; working efficiently and effectively throughout the hospital.

+ Multi-task various duties and responsibilities in a timely and reliable manner, with appropriate follow-through and accuracy.

+ Understand and follow established hospital processes and procedures (i.e. SOPs)

+ Able to work well independently as well as with a team.

+ Basic understanding of veterinary medical terminology.

Preferred qualifications:

+ Enrolled in a veterinary technology program.

+ Clinical experience working/interning in a veterinary hospital.
