Job Summary:
The Shipping Lead is responsible for assisting the Production Supervisor in leading department employees to meet manufacturing and production schedules. The Shipping Lead provides overall direction to production floor employees in their respective departments, including addressing production issues, scheduling, new hire training, and other training-related areas, to improve overall operational efficiency during their designated shift.
* Shift: M-F (11PM-7AM - with occasional OT every other Saturday)
* Pay Rate: $33.25
How you will Impact Smurfit Westrock:
* Manage the day-to-day operations of the shift with constant emphasis on safety, quality, productivity, and cost.
* Filling in for shipping leads for vacations and appointments, and production employee call-offs, during breaks, or as business needs require.
* Inform the Shipping Manager of attendance, quality, and performance-based issues that need to be addressed and fill out the proper paperwork accordingly. Responsible for ensuring all company rules are followed.

* Acts as the first point of contact for banders and forklift drivers regarding mechanical failure or production issues. Leadman knows how to be a bander (able to lift 25+lbs, stand for 8-12 hours, full range of arm movement) and forklift driver (sitting for 8-12 hours, full range of hand movement, turn 180 degrees to be able to drive backwards).
* Ensures completion of all safety toolbox training or audits for the shift.
* Supports continuous improvement initiatives and enforces control procedures.
* Complete the notification and late list for the day if coverage is needed.
* Monitor and track shipping notifications based on what is due and shipping out.
* Ensure housekeeping and cleaning is completed in the department.
* Assist with Inventory management for the department.
* Manages communication with loading dock pulls and trailers needed in the door with the yard jockey.
* Check forklift load tally sheets when handed in. Ensure they match what was loaded in the KIWI system and that the driver uses stock on the floor if needed for the job.
* Coordinates with maintenance employees to troubleshoot and enter work orders as needed.
* Enforce adherence to plant safety regulations and encourage employees to become safety conscious.
* Conducts hourly spot checks on the quality process for the department.
* Supports training initiatives as SME (Subject Matter Expert) to enforce learning objectives, follow assessment procedures, and conduct timely evaluations.
* Coordinate product activities with other departments to ensure production goals/objectives are accomplished in a timely and cost-effective manner.
* Monitor and track production activities to eliminate waste and ensure adherence to production and shipping schedules.
* Mentor and coach employees (as needed)
* Maintain staff by training and evaluating new employees by following the training plan.
What you need to succeed:
* Inventory and outbound management experience required
* Extensive computer applications experience using MS Office: Word and Excel
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities simultaneously
* Ability to identify issues and communicate with managers
* Good mathematical and analytical abilities
* 2-3 years of relevant experience in a lead role
* Ability to lead and manage large-scale projects
* Good time management skills
