In Global Commercial Services Technology (GCST), we develop software products and platforms across Small Business, Mid and Large Market and Global Commercial Clients. Team/ Project:
The CDX team is ramping up to support a variety of new workloads such as a focus on re-writing current applications to Kotlin to better integrate across other Amex systems, as well as new feature builds including a commercial data exchange focused project supporting Real Time Authorizations (RTA) aimed at helping businesses make better business decisions with their data - particularly enabling 3rd party data integrations from card authorization data to external customers.
Day to day work will build off their microservice based foundational platform, building integrations with Kafka, building APIs to facilitate backend services, and expose APIs for the collection of certain data constructs such as authorizations.
What you'll be doing:
• Play a critical role in the development, design, and maintenance of American Express Commercial APIs
• Architect large-scale distributed systems that ensuring continued success
• Work across the engineering team to build new product features and services
• Lead, mentor and learn with other developers in all aspects of planning, development and testing
• Be a catalyst for driving best-in-class technology practices and patterns while staying engaged with the latest technology trends

Qualifications
• Strong experience working with Kotlin as well as any of the following object-oriented backend languages: C#, Scala, Java
• Knowledge of frameworks and tools in the respective language enabling effective and efficient development
• Recent experience working with Kotlin at the enterprise level – particularly in Kotlin re-writes is a plus.
• Understanding and interest in architectural patterns for highly available, scalable, low-latency, asynchronous systems (for example, well-designed REST APIs, Microservices, high volume data pipelines, efficient algorithms)
• Exposure to the benefits and challenges micro-services can bring
• Experience working with Kafka or other streaming platforms
• Experience with any cloud-based provider like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Strong experience with relational (PSQL) and non relational (redis, couchbase) databases
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines
• Experience working in agile environments with code reviews and automated testing

• Must be a self starter, growth oriented engineer who takes initiative in their work - "go-getter" mind set
• Must be confident in their skills - can take requirements and run with them. This includes analyzing, pushing back on stakeholders, poking holes when needed.
Biggest challenge - finding people who are good at asking questions, good at finding the holes in requirements, can be receptive to feedback in the coding interview and adapt, and can articulate the decisions they are making when problem solving and why
Bonus Experience:
- Experience with Docker, Terraform, and Kubernetes
- Experience with financial data, third-party integrations, and high throughput systems
- Full-stack experience with React or Angular is a plus (current tech stack is heavier angular but going through re-write to React)

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $55.00 - $62.00/hr.
