The primary purpose of this position is to provide outstanding clinical expertise including patient care management related at MD Anderson. To provide services that contribute to the daily operation of Pulmonary Medicine through superlative clinical judgment, active participation in educational endeavors and independent decision making.

*JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES *
Clinical
• Provide clinical expertise in patient care management in the clinic.
• Provide clinical expertise in patient care management in the hospital setting.
• Provide clinical expertise in performance of airway and pleural procedures.
• Provide interpretation of pulmonary function testing
• Practice in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, the American College of Physicians and specialty societies.
• Independently assumes responsibility for outpatient and inpatient clinical services: consultations, new patient evaluations, initiation of appropriate referrals, and follow-up/ surveillance.
• Completes patient documentation for medical records including dictation, according to institutional and departmental policies.
• Attends and contributes to regularly scheduled conferences and special programs including departmental meetings, grand rounds, HALs interdisciplinary rounds, pathology conferences, etc.
• Meets institutional requirements for submission of electronic orders and documentation of same.
• Provides thorough history and physical patient examinations.
• Identifies and submits in a timely fashion the proper ICD-10 diagnosis and CPT billing codes for all aspects of patient care based on timelines defined by Institutional policy.
• Corresponds as appropriate in writing, electronic, or by telephone conversations with referring physicians and other health care providers regarding patient care and treatment.
• Request appropriate consultations for patients.
