JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Technical Functions
Have the ability to culture cancer cells as well as isolate protein, DNA, and RNA using kits. Discusses goals of each project with supervisor; with the help of supervisor, develops a step-by-step written procedure outlining the specific actions required to conduct the experiment before proceeding. Compile research data and help PI obtain and submit results for use in publications, grants or protocols.
Laboratory Operation
The Research Assistant I will be responsible for the following laboratory operations:
ordering supplies, making shipments, unpacking orders, organization of supplies, and keeping track of simple inventory, as well as cell culture, drug assays, western blots, molecular cloning, and PCR. Some light mouse work may also be required including tumor size and body weight measurements.
Collaboration and Presentation
Willingness to learn and to help others in the implementation of new techniques.
Data Maintenance
Enter and maintain data from research activities in notebook/computer databases as appropriate. Performs and documents all required quality control/quality assurance of their work. Maintains accurate, detailed records and experimental data and protocols
Prepares graphs, slides and tables via photography, computer, or manually.
Acquires and maintains proficiency in computer functions.
Must be able to fully communicate results and understand instructions from principal investigator and colleagues.
