Responsibilities:
The Physician Assistant provides patient care in collaboration with Occupational Medicine physician. The Physician Assistant works in a collaborative relationship with the Medical Director to oversee the care delivered to Finger Lakes Occupational Health Services patient population and programs. This position is responsible for direct patient care, documentation of care delivered, adherence to medical policies, procedures and practice standards, education for patients and staff, assurance of service excellence, completion of state and hospital-required reviews of practice, and participation
in performance improvement and other activities as required
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
+ Provides patient care consistent with the scope of privileges defined by FLOHS, written practice protocols, applicable state and federal laws/regulations, and in collaboration with FLOHS health team members. Diagnoses, evaluates, and manages work-related conditions (injuries, illnesses). Occasionally job duties as listed in here may be performed at offsite clinics which may be scheduled during or outside regular hours of operation
+ Completes daily patient evaluations and assessments per NYS DOH OHCN and NYS Workers’ Compensation protocols. Documents pertinent elements in electronic patient records. Writes medication and other medical orders.
+ Obtains medical, work, and social histories and performs medical examinations.
+ Instructs and counsels patients in collaboration with other health team members (Occupational Health physician, nurse, social worker, industrial hygienist).
+ Performs routine Occupational Health procedures (venipuncture, urine collection, immunizations, audiogram, spirometry) per protocol and established standards. Provides clinical guidance to FLOHS nurse.
+ Provides education to individuals and groups on occupational hazards and risks for occupational injury and illness prevention and wellness promotion.
+ Participates in quality assurance (QA/QI) activities.
+ Attends NYS Occupational Health Clinic Network meetings at least once per calendar year (usually in Albany, NY). Professional development: maintains appropriate licensure and certifications. Participates in education sessions, grand rounds, professional conferences, web-based and/or in-person.

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
+ Completion of an AMA approved Physician’s Assistant Program required
+ Or equivalent combination of education and experience
+ Previous experience in a health care setting preferred
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
+ Clinical competence from very acute, chronic and well patients required
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
+ PA - Physician Assistant upon hire required
