    Senior Director, Field Medical (Pipeline)

    The Senior Director, Field Medical (Pipeline) is accountable for providing leadership of Field Medical Liaisons and other direct reports within the specified Field Medical squads and the larger Field Medical team members. They are accountable for leading, managing, coaching, and developing the Field Medical leaders to support overall Bayer Medical strategies and objectives and to help them reach their full potential. The Senior Director, Field Medical is also accountable for a performance culture within their Franchise Field Medical organization. Along with the TA VP, Medical Director(s), and other stakeholders, they lead development of field medical strategies and tactics which are directly aligned with the Medical Affairs plan and business strategy and imperatives. They are accountable for compliant and successful execution of the Field Medical Affairs strategy by the Field Medical Affairs team to meet business goals. The Senior Director, Field Medical is an active member of the Senior Director Leadership team, and in partnership with Field Medical Excellence, HR, and other stakeholders drive consistency, alignment, harmonization, elevated culture, and ongoing evolution across the entire Field Medical organization.

     

    The Senior Director, Field Medical is the accountable leader of the Franchise Field Medical team. The incumbent will lead by example for their team and clearly demonstrate the Bayer VACC Leadership behaviors within their squad and across other teams within and outside of USMA.

    YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Director, Field Medical (Pipeline), are to:

    Leadership

    + Accountable for hiring, training, and development of Franchise Field Medical Liaisons and other roles within the Franchise Field Medical leadership team;

    + Accountable for building and sustaining a high performing Field team in line with Bayer s performance culture framework and individual role responsibilities;

    + Responsible and accountable for strengthening own leadership and people management skills (i.e. coaching, feedback, courageous conversations, situational leadership) by continuously learning and applying relevant tools and techniques to enhance Field Medical team capability, motivation, and performance;

    + Responsible for ensuring consistency of processes, standards, tools, and communication methods within strategic and functional alignment with larger Field Medical direction and guidance;

    + Accountable for consistent execution of performance culture within the Field Medical Franchise team.

    Field Medical Strategy

    + Accountable for pull through of the medical and Franchise strategy by translating the Global, Regional, and Local medical plans and imperatives into implementable HCP engagement strategies for full Franchise Field Medical team;

    + Accountable for the Field Medical Affairs segment of the brand planning process to align and prioritize resources to deliver on goals and strategic imperatives;

    + In partnership with Director Field Medical and other stakeholders, coordinate and analyze field insights, & develop strategic recommendations as appropriate;

    + Active contribution towards efforts to elevate and evolve Field Medical roles/responsibilities, customer engagement models, impact and value demonstration, educational outreach, and performance of full Field Medical organization;

    + Develops long term strategic Field Medical structure and plan to ensure appropriate and timely staffing for lifecycle management of portfolio including pre launch, launch, and mature brands.

    Coaching & Development

    + Responsible for conducting competency based performance evaluations in accordance to Bayer s performance management process and timelines for direct reports and accountable for the full Field Medical team;

    + Responsible for conducting development discussions with direct reports aligned with Bayer employee development framework and resources and accountable for the Full Field Medical team;

    + Responsible to ensure each Field Medical direct report receives appropriate training, coaching, feedback, and support to achieve their full potential;

    + Demonstrated commitment to lifelong learning and personal growth and development;

    + Maintain high level of technical and scientific expertise and broad knowledge of clinical and business issues impacting the Bayer business environment and landscape;

    + Active leadership to ensure future staffing, career growth, and team sustainability by developing the talent pool within Field Medical Affairs, in partnership with TA VP, Field Medical Excellence, Senior Director Leadership team, and other stakeholders.

    Collaboration / Strategic Partnerships

    + Strategic collaboration and partnership with internal and stakeholders to ensure Field Medical imperatives, goals, resources, and activities are aligned and support larger strategic plans and imperatives, and to ensure Medical Affairs is a recognized strategic partner with the Franchise.Stakeholders include but not limited to Commercial Senior Leaders (sales and marketing), Market Access, DGOS, or Global MA teams;

    + Collaboration and strategic partnership with Field Medical Leadership team, Director MSL Operations & Excellence, Head Field Medical Excellence, and other stakeholders to support the goals of holistic Field Medical Affairs organization and to drive consistency, alignment, standardization, efficiency, and impact in partnership with L&D team and Field Medical Leadership team, accountable to ensure that the Franchise Field Medical team is fully compliant in the documentation and timing of all training programs and certifications. Through strategic partnership with L&D colleagues, contribute to ongoing feedback and input to evolve and elevate MSL onboarding programs, soft skill training, PFCI pull through, and additional development of Field Medical and Field Medical Leaders;

    New Ways of Working (Data collection / Analysis / Interpretation)

    + Accountable for developing strategic perspective and strong understanding of Bayer s Franchise and Medical strategies, healthcare landscape (includes healthcare systems, competition, healthcare regulations etc.) so as to anticipate business and customer/stakeholder needs and develop Field Medical strategy accordingly;

    + Drive accountability of Field Medical team to strategically leverage and implement new ways of working including platforms, systems, & subsequent capabilities;

    + Accountable for reviewing and interpreting full team analytics related to Stakeholder engagement and activities to adjust priorities, initiatives, or direction accordingly;

    + Leverage evolving country and Global platforms and systems to ensure data driven approach to customer engagement by Field Medical team and Field Medical Leadership Team;

    + Drive consistent use of new Ways of Working, tools, and technology and maximize consistent implementation of updates and new functionality within Field Medical team, which directly impacts data driven decision making and impact and value communications.

    WHO YOU ARE

    Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:

    Required Qualifications:

    + Advanced degree in a science related field (PharmD, PhD, MD, MSN);

    + Proven management experience of Field Medical professionals;

    + Demonstrated formal leadership ability;

    + Clear strategic, tactical, and visionary capabilities with the ability to establish, articulate, and pull through vision for Field Medical team;

    + Demonstrates excellent project management ability. Highly organized with thorough attention to detail ensuring timely follow through and closure;

    + Proven ability to understand customer segments and market trends;

    + Ability to work in a team environment and build productive work relationships both internally and externally required;

    + Demonstrated ability to articulate vision, lead change, and drive accountability;

    + Track record of successfully partnering and influencing cross functional stakeholders to develop coherent strategy/ approach or to gain support on key issues, as well as negotiating and influencing key external stakeholders;

    + Demonstrated negotiation and strategic influencing skills;

    + Demonstrated expertise in communicating scientific information;

    + Conveys a strong and deep knowledge of FDA regulations regarding drug promotion, the dissemination of medical and product information is required;

    + Ability to travel 50%.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Minimum 10 years experience within a pharmaceutical or medical device company in medical affairs, clinical development, marketing, or sales;

    + 5 years of proven management experience of Field Medical Affairs professionals.

     

    Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $224,900 to $337,400. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc.. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
