    Salary Range: $46.50 - $46.50

    Position Summary

    Skilled Electrician that provides installation, maintenance, and repair services on electrical and lighting control systems and provides direction to and/or trains junior co-workers as needed.

    Job Responsibilities

    + Skilled in the performance of all phases of electrical repair and maintenance.

    + Troubleshoots and repairs various components of electrical distribution systems including fixtures, ballasts, circuits, panel boards, transfer switches, lighting controls, motors, etc.

    + Performs rounds and responds to service calls for occupants throughout campus.

    + Provides hi quality installation, maintenance, and repair services of various institutional electrical systems, following accepted procedures and techniques of the electrical trade.

    + Inspects and tests elements of electrical systems to locate faults, such as blown fuses, short circuits, broken wires, loose connections, and worn motor brushes. Replaces elements of electrical systems as needed.

    + Installs all elements of new circuits from the distribution board to the load.

    + Completes and submits a variety of service requests and preventative maintenance tasks indicating work performed and time and material spent.

    + Provides shutdowns of selected utility systems during maintenance and construction activities.

    + Develops scope of work for projects and identifies material and labor necessary. Obtains material pricing from vendors.

    + Provides direction to other staff assigned to assist in the completion of tasks. Trains co-workers in the proper methods of completing trades work.

    Education

    + High School Diploma

    + Successful completion of an electrical trade school or documented training program.

    Experience

    Minimum 3-5 years of experience in in the electrical trade working under a licensed electrician. Experience with electrical maintenance within a large institution or commercial facility with complex infrastructure systems a plus.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    + Demonstrated ability to understand complex interrelationships between multiple utility systems.

    + Ability to work on off-shifts as required to accommodate on-going operations and/or emergencies.

    + Works independently or with co-workers without supervision.

    + Ability to be available for 24-hour emergency call-ins.

    + Demonstrates the required knowledge and the safe use of tools and equipment, adheres to safety rules and regulations. Has a working knowledge of the NYC electrical code.

    Licenses and Certifications

    + Will obtain the FDNY Certificate of Fitness P98 Fuel Oil Piping and Storage System during the probationary period to maintain employment.

     

    Working Conditions/Physical Demands

     

    Position requires working in a non-office environment where there are some physical discomforts such as noise, dust, heat, fumes and other elements which are continuously present.

     

    Periodic work in animal research areas, work in machine rooms, crawl spaces, areas where there are odors from maintenance products, leaks, dust, dark areas, dampness, areas with restricted access, and noise.

     

    Frequent use of ladders to perform work.

     

    Work is performed both indoors and outdoors.

     

    Ability to grasp, lift and/or carry or otherwise move objects weighing a minimum of 50 pounds and push/pull objects up to 100 pounds.

     

    Position requires the utilization of hand tools, power tools, large wrenches; operation of small to large valves; visually and audibly required to observe operating equipment.

     

    Ability to walk, stand, climb ladders/scaffolds, bend, reach, lift and carry
