Certified Trauma Registrar
Department: Trauma Program Admin
Shift: 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Status: Full-Time
Facility: Miami Valley Hospital
The Certified Trauma Registrar identifies, abstracts, enters data and codes trauma patient records using TraumaBase. The registrar has contact with various departments throughout the hospital. The registrar must become knowledgeable in Trauma Registry methodology, case abstraction, data entry, coding and simple ad hoc reporting.
Essential Duties & Functions:
1. Awareness and accountability with regards to outcomes across the balanced score card.
2. Pursues ongoing education related to CSTR certification.
3. Supports the validity and reliability of the Trauma Registry data base by participating in routine checks for accuracy on data entry fields. Responsible for correcting data entry if needed at the direction of Registry Coordinator.
4. Participates in scheduled meetings for review of Trauma Registry functions, changes, responsibilities.
5. Responsible for identifying and generating a daily list of patients that meet Miami Valley Hospital and the State of Ohio Trauma Registry inclusion criteria for abstraction and data entry into the Trauma Registry data base
6. Responsible for accurate data entry for the weekly Trauma Conference Report.
7. Maintains competence to generate a patient report for weekly trauma conference
8. At 1 year of hire, independently performs to following functions of a registrar:
a) Data abstraction
b) ICD-10 coding
c) AIS coding
d) Data entry
e) Final data abstraction and coding
f) Final data entry associated with closeout.
**Minimum Level of Education Required:** High School completion / GED High School completion / GED
Licensure/Certification/Registration
CSTR-Certified Specialist in Trauma Registry required
Experience
**Minimum Level of Experience Required:** No prior job-related work experience
**Preferred** **experience:** Knowledge of computerized medical record preferred
Other** **experience requirements:** Experience or knowledge in medical terminology and anatomy required. **Must be a High School graduate and have one of the following:
Business education
Accredited records technician
Experience as health unit coordinator
Previous registry experience.
