Summary of Position:

The principal purpose of this position is to further develop, implement, and manage company’s environmental (items for sale, use and disposal) programs, with focus on state of California, and other states/local municipalities across the US and Canada that have or planning to implement stringent regulations, hazardous waste disposal and compliance programs. In addition, working with buying organization, vendors and others to ensure items have proper hazardous waste designations.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

+ This position will be responsible for managing, training, scheduling, direct reports that help to manage and ensure compliance with the California hazardous waste disposal program as well as California environmental and compliance programs, and other states/local municipalities across the US and Canada that have or planning to implement stringent regulations, hazardous waste disposal and compliance programs.

+ This position will assist in the implementation, management and development of the WERCS system at Dollar Tree/Family Dollar.

+ Responsible for developing/updating the training and coaching of field/store/DC management teams regarding required compliance practices with respect to hazardous waste, compliance and environmental regulations.

+ Responsible to conduct on-site audits in stores and DCs, manage scheduling of auditing program, schedule direct reports auditing assignments. Analyzing completed audits and comply recap of audit results monthly, quarterly, annually. Identify, direct and supervise actions when/if an urgent issue is discovered during an audit. Follow up with field leadership to ensure mitigation.

+ Assist with the development and implementation of environmental policies to ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulations.

+ Collaborate with store operations and distribution center management teams to ensure compliance with environmental policies.

+ Directly communicate with government inspectors and regulators regarding Dollar Tree’s Family Dollar environmental compliance, as necessary.

+ Monitor compliance metrics to ensure proper execution of policies and procedures.

+ Responsible for staying current, informed and monitoring/identifying trends in the California compliance and other jurisdiction enforcement areas to be the company’s resource expert as it relate to hazard waste and compliance programs.

+ Responsible for keeping sr. management informed regarding risks and opportunities based on current trends and best practices.

+ Prepare needs assessments to identify opportunities for developing compliance programs.

+ Collaborate with Dollar Tree/Family Dollar store operations and distribution management teams to monitor compliance with relevant programs and initiatives.

+ Assist with response to and remediation of OSHA, AHJ and other federal, state, local authorities’ inquiries and complaints as necessary.

+ This position is a field position based in California.

+ Expect to travel 50% of the time, will include overnights in hotels, travel via commercial airlines, trains, and automobiles should be expected.

Minimum Requirements / Qualifications:

+ Minimum 5 years retail/management experience in safety/regulatory compliance.

+ Experience managing and developing teams.

+ Environmental training and/or education.

+ Experience in administering compliance programs with regulatory oversight.

+ Track record of managing/directing or delivery successful outcomes/results.

Desired Qualifications:

+ College degree and/or industry related certifications preferred.
