    Position Summary:

    The Department of English at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin August 2026. Candidates must have teaching and research interests in Rhetoric and Composition. Candidates working in public writing and rhetoric, digital/multimodal writing and rhetoric, technical and professional communication, and composition pedagogy will be given special consideration.

     

    The hired candidate will teach primarily on the Boca Raton campus. We seek a candidate who will balance high-quality scholarship, excellence in teaching, and committed service. Faculty typically teach a 3-2 course schedule. Faculty teach and mentor graduate students in the department's Master’s Degree programs as well as the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters interdisciplinary Ph. D. program in Comparative Studies.

    Summary of Responsibilities:

    + The new hire will be responsible to the Chair of English

    + Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities.

    + Responsible for academic advising and related activities.

    + The new hire may represent the department, college, and/or university, on college, university and/or Statewide committees.

    + The new hire may contribute to the Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters Interdisciplinary Ph. D program in Comparative Studies.

    + If appropriate to the hire’s research, the new hire may contribute to FAU’s Certificate Programs in Professional and Technical Writing; Environmental Studies; Ethnic Studies; Peace, Justice and Human Rights; or Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    Minimum qualifications include a PhD in Rhetoric and Composition, or related field, at the time of appointment.

     

    Preferred Qualifications: Publication record in field and relevant teaching experience at the college level are preferred.

Similarly, for degrees from outside the United States, the evaluation by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts) is required for the Provost’s credential file prior to the first day of employment. Transcripts must be issued to Florida Atlantic University, not to the individual applicant.
