Toyota’s Corporate Security & Emergency Management (CSEM) Department is looking for a passionate and highly motivated Manager – Emergency Management & Fire Protection Programs.
The primary responsibility of this role is to provide strategic direction and national program oversight for Toyota’s emergency preparedness, fire brigade operations, and electrification-related risk management. This position plays a critical role in strengthening readiness for fire, hazardous materials, and emerging hazards such as lithium-ion battery incidents, while ensuring consistency and best practices across North America.
Reporting to the Senior Manager of CSEM – Security Strategy & Program Support, the person in this role will support the department’s objective to safeguard people, property, and brand by setting strategy, developing standards, and partnering with operational teams and vendors to achieve world-class fire and emergency management readiness.
What you’ll be doing
+ Provide strategic oversight for two core program areas: Emergency Preparedness & Response (ERP) and Fire/Electrification Readiness.
+ Lead and develop a team of four Toyota members, while also guiding contracted partners in program execution.
+ Establish best practices and strategic direction for five on-site industrial fire brigades (~100 contracted firefighters/EMTs across three vendors), including auditing, performance evaluation, and strike-team planning.
+ Ensure readiness for hazardous materials and battery-related incidents, developing scalable models to address evolving risks.
+ Lead the development of ERP training materials and guidance, serving as the subject matter expert in incident command, while directing continuity-related integration at a strategic level.
+ Set standards and coordinate fire/emergency drills and training programs in collaboration with operational teams and third-party vendors.
+ Oversee Toyota’s national fire suppression and alarming strategy, including modernization, upgrades, compliance, and multi-year road mapping within budgetary limits.
+ Manage evaluation and strategy for Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance (ITM) contracts, assessing effectiveness, benefits, and alignment with Toyota’s risk-reduction goals.
+ Collaborate with Safety, Environmental, Production, and external municipal agencies to ensure integrated response capabilities and cross-functional alignment.
+ Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and strategic roadmaps for emergency management and fire programs, ensuring continuous improvement through lessons learned.
+ Allocate and manage budgets/resources to support national program initiatives.
What you bring
+ Comprehensive understanding of emergency preparedness principles, industrial fire protection systems, suppression/alarming technologies, and hazardous materials response.
+ Proven experience with industrial firefighting and safety programs; municipal-only experience is valuable but not fully aligned.
+ Familiarity with applicable laws, codes, and regulatory standards for emergency management, hazmat, and fire safety.
+ Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to manage a team of direct Toyota members and contracted service providers, while setting strategy, standards, and best practices.
+ Project management expertise to deliver large-scale program initiatives on time and within budget.
+ Analytical skills to assess risks, audit program performance, and implement continuous improvements.
+ Proficiency in developing and delivering ERP training materials and preparedness exercises.
+ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in Emergency Management, Fire Protection, Public Safety, or related field (Master’s preferred).
+ Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive experience in emergency management, fire protection, or industrial safety.
+ Relevant certifications such as: Certified Emergency Manager (CEM), Certified Protection Professional (CPP), NFPA Fire Protection Specialist (CFPS), Business Continuity certifications (CBCP, CBCI)
+ Additional exposure to Firefighter I/II standards, hazmat response, and EMS protocols preferred.
+ Demonstrated knowledge of battery technologies and their fire/emergency management implications.
+ 40% travel required
Added bonus if you have
+ Advanced certifications in fire protection engineering, hazardous materials management, or lithium-ion battery response.
+ Experience developing strike-team models or scalable industrial fire brigades.
+ Prior collaboration with manufacturing, environmental, and safety teams in a large enterprise.
