UPMC Altoona is hiring a part-time Sterile Processing Technician! Join our dedicated team to ensure the safe and efficient reprocessing and distribution of sterile supplies across the hospital. This role is essential to maintaining high standards of patient care and safety.
This position will work varied/rotating shifts, with occasional weekends and holidays.
Eligible new hires may receive up to $2,500 in sign-on bonuses over two years-$2,500 for certified technicians, or $1,250 for non-certified technicians, with an additional $1,250 awarded upon certification.
Responsibilities:
+ Cleans and restocks CPR carts.
+ Performs all duties according to department policies and procedures.
+ Operates all departmental equipment and performs operator maintenance.
+ Performs all assigned clerical duties, such as answering the telephone, recording of messages, and maintenance of records.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of instrumentation and working order for the Operating Room, OB, and other departments.
+ Maintains working knowledge of all products in stock and their appropriate locations.
+ Prepares and assembles special items, trays, and packs to meet stated needs of all hospital departments.
+ Prepares case carts for the Operating Room.
+ Performs all duties related to decontamination, preparation, sterilization/disinfection, and dispatch of instruments, equipment and supplies for the Operating Room, OB, Cardiology, ED/Trauma, and Nursing and ancillary departments.
+ Demonstrates working knowledge of sterilization techniques.
+ High school Graduate or equivalent.
+ Six months of healthcare experience or currently enrolled in an Accredited Surgical Technician/Sterile Processing Program Preferred
+ Must complete 10 hours of continuing education to remain qualified as a Central Sterile Technician on an annual basis.Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
+ Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution OR Certified Registered Central Service Technician with Healthcare Sterile Processing Association OR International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management
+ Employees active in a Central Sterile position, on or before the effective date 12/27/2020, at a healthcare facility, are grandfathered regarding certification and will not need to obtain it unless they move into a different position that would require certification.? Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution or Certified Registered Central Service Technician or International Association of Healthcare Central Service Material Management certification required. New employees will have 18 months from date of hire to obtain required certification.
