Title: (NEX NORFOLK) BARBER SUPERVISOR Location: United States-Virginia-Norfolk Job Number: 2500034X Job Summary: Responsible for providing barbering services. Supervises a staff of Barbers in the main Barber Shop and provides logistical and staffing support for up to 3 shops in other locations. Duties and Responsibilities: Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture and possession of a valid State License in Barbering. Supervises Barbers engaged in providing hair care services and care at the main Barber Shop and, if applicable, at subsidiary shops at other locations. Establishes work schedules and ensures adequate staffing. Ensures necessary orientation of new subordinates in various operations. Prepares work performance reviews; approves leave; and maintains time and attendance records. Initiates proposals for disciplinary action, as needed. Carries out EEO policies and communicates support of these principles to subordinates. Provides haircare service in barbering; consults with clients on matters pertaining to their hair care needs. Checks client's scalp and hair for disorders such as sores, abrasions or diseases which may interfere with requested service. Determines equipment, supplies and maintenance required and assures adequacy of supplies and equipment, as needed. Performs monthly inventory and maintains adequate stock of supplies (i.e. towels, capes, razors, etc.). Makes minor repairs to equipment and initiates request for major repairs or replacements. Ensures that sanitation security and safety standards are met. Carries out policy of courtesy and customer service. Ensures 100% customer satisfaction. Carries out assignments with independence within prescribed policies and procedures. Refers unusual problems to designated supervisor. Work is reviewed in terms of quality of service provided, customer satisfaction achieved and efficiency and cost effectiveness of operations. PHYSICAL EFFORT Requires continual use of both arms and hands; involves frequent standing, reaching and lifting. Objects handled seldom weigh in excess of 5 pounds. Dexterity is required in applying manual massaging techniques. WORKING CONDITIONS Works in a barber shop under proper lighting and ventilation. Is subject to possible cuts, burns, strains and electric shock. Is exposed to hair cuttings, skin conditions, colds and communicable diseases. Is required to wear a smock; wash hands thoroughly and frequently with soap and water; and sanitize barbering tools after each use. MEDICAL SCREENING REQUIREMENT All barber shop and beauty shop employees, including contract personnel, must be medically screened and determined to be free of communicable diseases prior to initial assignment. Unless necessary for local reasons, there is no requirement for periodic examinations. This screening examination may be performed by non-physician personnel. The employer will direct him or her to a medical clinic on base where they must be screened. Abnormal responses or findings must be further evaluated by a provider. MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology and possession of a valid State License in Barbering or cosmetology Qualifications: EDUCATION AND LICENSE Graduate of an accredited school of barber culture or cosmetology and possession of a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology. Candidate s selected for hire who possess a U.S. State License in Cosmetology from a State other than the State the position is located must obtain a valid State License in Barbering or Cosmetology in the State the position is located within six months from the date of hire. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Three years of experience providing barbering hair care services for clients including shampooing and conditioning, cutting, shaping sideburns, nape of neck, middle and top part of the head into various haircuts and styles to suit client; styles mustache and beard. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Continual use of both arms and legs involving frequent standing, reaching, and light lifting. Objects handled such as barber service apparatus, appliances, etc. dexterity is required in applying manual techniques.
