Senior Principal Bioprocess Automation Engineer
This position is part of the global organization, Process Engineering & Technologies (PE&T), that is positioned within Bayer Pharma Product Supply Division. This position is part of Process Eng & Technologies Implementation (PE&TI) group located in Berkeley, CA. Across Bayer Pharma, PE&T is accountable to support on-going (bio)process operations and to develop Bayer’s cell and gene therapy processing platforms. This position will support the delivery bioprocess equipment to Bayer's global Network.
YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary responsibilities of this role, Senior Principal Bioprocess Automation Engineer, are to:
+ Recognized as an automation expert in division/business unit and has team leadership and financial impact with demonstrated specific expertise.
+ Defines and applies innovative engineering, manufacturing, and HES techniques to assure continuous improvement of processes.
+ Continuously participates in technical and non-technical training.
+ Continuously presents at and/or particiaptes in external conferences/technical gatherings.
+ Technical system owner for automation packages of installed process equipment platform and technology in the Biotech network (Commercial and Clinical).
+ Responsible for troubleshooting installed process equipment platform and for providing solutions on a global level
+ Accountable for the automation package that supports the Biologics (such as rFVIII Operations, mAb Operations, Cell Therapy) equipment platform (meeting Bayer Pharma products manufacturing requirements)
+ Accountable to lead and/or own auxillary automation topics related to the platform (digital plant enablement)
+ Leads projects of larger scope (or portions of projects) and is often called upon by peers for guidance.
+ Directs project or discipline teams.
+ Mentors others in and outside the department.
WHO YOU ARE
Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
Required Qualifications:
+ Engineering or equivalent experience within Biopharma industry
+ Strong knowledge of control system philosophy, control system standards, instrumentation configuration, programming, and design in a cGMP environment
+ Automation industry with experience in Design, Construction, and Commissioning;
+ Experience in captial projects;
+ Experience with standard industrial automation technologies, DCSs, PLCs, SCADAs, and HMI programming
+ Strong knowledge of Industrial networks including Ethernet networks, Profibus and OPC communication
+ Strong working experience in working with ISA 88 and ISA 95 levels
+ Technical expert in DeltaV DCS

Preferred Qualifications:
+ BS & 10+ years of relevant experience within Biopharma industry
+ MS & 4-8+ years of relevant experience within Biopharma industry
+ PhD & 2-6+ of relevant experience within Biopharma industry;
+ Professional registration and/or certifications as appropriate.
+ 15+ years in the Automation industry with experience in Design, Construction, and Commissioning
+ 10+ Years of relevant experience in captial projects;
+ 15+ Years of experience with standard industrial automation technologies, DCSs, PLCs, SCADAs, and HMI programming
Employees can expect to be paid a salary of between $114,327 - 171,490. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. This salary range is merely an estimate and may vary based on an applicant’s location, market data/ranges, an applicant’s skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
