    Job Summary

    The Program Executive - Sports and Recreation provides executive level leadership for the association’s Sports and Recreation strategy for youth sports and recreation programs. This role plans, designs, develops, implements, and evaluates sports and recreation leadership development programs, practices, and systems to achieve organizational goals. The Program Executive designs, implements, and evaluates best practices for hiring, training, onboarding, and coaching all sports and recreation staff in partnership with Y branches. In addition, this position develops and evaluates sports and recreation programs and services to achieve best practice and performance benchmarks.

     

    This executive-level position is responsible for strategic development and management of the Association’s youth sports and recreation programs. As part of the Center of Excellence, the Program Executive - Sports and Recreation will develop and align Association standardization, policy, procedure, and practice for youth sports programs and leagues. The Program Executive also develops key relationships and partnerships in the community to advance the mission and strategic direction of the YMCA of Greater Seattle.

     

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

     

    This is a full-time position, and regular weekly schedule is Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, with a minimum of two days per week in person at the Association Office. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

    Hiring Range: $85,000 - $95,000 annually.

    Responsibilities

    + Establish sports and recreation program activities and expansion within the community in accordance with the Association strategic plan.

    + Develop a program model of excellence for sports and recreation initiatives being incubated within the Center of Excellence in anticipation of scaling such programs in districts in the future.

    + Assist in developing strategic plans and initiatives for Association-wide sports and recreation growth, aligning with the broader Center of Excellence.

    + Develop league structures, sports programs, and recreation protocols to ensure quality delivery and strong participant experience.

    + Lead continuous improvement efforts to increase sports and recreation member satisfaction, retention, and impact scores.

    + Develop and implement systems, standard operating procedures, and tactics to advance sports and recreation strategy through programs.

    + Design, implement, and ensure best practices for hiring, training, onboarding, and developing sports and recreation staff, coaches, and officials at all levels of the organization.

    + Work within the community to develop partnerships with school districts, athletic associations, and other community-based sports and recreation organizations.

    + Develop relationships with potential sponsors, funders, and community leaders to advance the Y’s sports and recreation mission impact.

    + Assist in development and distribution of sports and recreation program and league information necessary to promote programs, in accordance with Association and branch marketing plans.

    + Ensure that safety procedures are followed and that all sports and recreation programs are in compliance with YMCA, contract, accreditation, and all relevant regulations and standards.

    + Provide support and association-level leadership to branch operations staff within sports and recreation programs. Support leadership in the assessment, evaluation, and coaching of sports and recreation staff and volunteers.

    + Provide support for sports and recreation committees and task forces as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience. Other applicable education, training, and experience, which provide the knowledge, abilities, and skills necessary to perform effectively in the position will be considered.

    + 8 or more years of related program experience, with 5 years of proven experience managing programs

    + 5 years of experience with staff and volunteer supervision, program development, and budget management.

    + High level of cultural competency to ensure quality and culturally appropriate programs are delivered to the branches across YMCA of Greater Seattle.

    + Intermediate computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office suite.

    + Ability to visit sites and community organizations.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Knowledge of and previous experience with diverse populations (language, culture, race, physical ability, sexual orientation, etc.).

    + Ability to speak any language in addition to English may be helpful.
