IT Veterans is seeking a Solutions Architect to join our team in Washington, D.C. This position offers a hybrid work environment, combining on-site support with remote flexibility, based on contract requirements and mission needs. In this role, you’ll support our federal customers by delivering high-quality solutions that enhance mission performance and security. This position requires eligibility to obtain and maintain a Public Trust designation, which includes a background investigation.
About this Role:
The Solutions Architect provides technical leadership and architectural design expertise to support federal IT programs. This role is responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and mission-aligned technology solutions that integrate business, operational, and IT objectives. The Solutions Architect will partner with stakeholders, program managers, and technical teams to ensure system designs meet federal standards, agency requirements, and long-term modernization strategies.
Key Responsibilities:
+ Lead the design and development of enterprise-level technical solutions across applications, systems, and infrastructure.
+ Translate business and mission needs into technical architectures, ensuring alignment with federal IT strategy, security, and compliance requirements.
+ Evaluate, recommend, and implement modern technologies including cloud platforms, COTS/GOTS solutions, and open-source tools.
+ Create architectural diagrams, design specifications, and implementation roadmaps.
+ Guide full lifecycle solution delivery, including requirements analysis, system design, development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
+ Provide hands-on support in migrating legacy applications to cloud or hybrid environments.
+ Ensure compliance with federal cybersecurity, accessibility (Section 508), and records management requirements.
+ Collaborate with development, security, and operations teams in Agile/DevSecOps environments.
+ Conduct trade-off analyses, proof-of-concepts, and technology assessments to support decision-making.
+ Present architecture strategies and technical recommendations to senior federal leadership and oversight bodies.
+ Mentor technical teams and provide best practices for system integration, performance optimization, and scalability.
+ Support 202+ solution architect activities annually including 19+ system registrations, 10+ software assessments, and 95+ NGSC migration support tasks
+ Lead NGSC Platform migration for 120+ systems to secure enterprise offerings and Okta authentication
+ Develop Power BI dashboards with initial development averaging 578 hours and ongoing maintenance support
+ Support 33+ ACF Program Office EBA and landscape diagrams and system-to-technology mapping
+ Provide 110+ annual FITARA reviews and feedback with peak periods of 19+ reviews quarterly
Qualifications and Skills:
+ Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field.
+ 7+ years of experience in IT architecture, systems engineering, or solution design.
+ Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale solutions, preferably in the federal sector.
+ Strong knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and hybrid architecture models.
+ Familiarity with modern development frameworks, APIs, microservices, and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
+ Knowledge of federal IT policies, cybersecurity requirements (e.g., FISMA, FedRAMP), and compliance frameworks.
+ Experience working in Agile and DevSecOps delivery environments.
+ Strong communication skills with ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
+ Experience with system migration projects (100+ systems scale)
+ Power BI dashboard development and data visualization expertise
+ Knowledge of federal enterprise architecture frameworks and FITARA compliance
+ Experience with ACF/HHS technology environments and health services IT requirements
Desired Skills and Competencies:
+ Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.
+ Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Solutions Architect, Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect, TOGAF, or SAFe Architect.
+ Experience with federal IT modernization, cloud migration, and COTS integration projects.
+ Background in full stack development (Java, Spring, React, TypeScript, etc.) to guide implementation teams.
+ Familiarity with ServiceNow, Salesforce, or other enterprise platforms used in federal environments.
+ Prior experience supporting federal programs requiring high availability, security, and scalability.
