Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary: The OR Scheduler is responsible for scheduling surgical procedures and is responsible for the clerical and receptionist functions essential to delivering efficient patient care in the Operating room and Ambulatory Surgery Department. The Operating Room Scheduler may rotate to other areas other than his/her normally assigned service (surgery), and will perform those duties for which he/she has demonstrated competency. The Operating Room Scheduler performs delegated duties consistent with his/her scope of practice and functions within the philosophy and overall plan for RMC. The OR Scheduler, displays positive support for the values and mission of RMC.

II. Position Requirements: A. Licensure/Certification/Registration: None required

B. Education: None required. Graduate of certified Secretary or medical terminology course preferred.

C. Experience: One year previous operating room scheduling experience preferred or one year experience as a unit secretary.

D. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Basic to advanced knowledge of computers: skills with scheduling systems preferred, typing and word processing skills required; intermediate to advanced knowledge and skills in medical terminology. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers. Demonstrates good organizational skills. Knowledge of medical and technical terms to accurately schedule surgical procedures. Displays appropriate judgement and problem solving skills. Communicates positively and professionally with all internal and external customers.
