    Job Title: Phlebotomist I

    Job Description

    The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various duties, troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. This position involves collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures and effectively explaining the venipuncture process to patients.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

    + Update patient information and ensure proper explanation of venipuncture and specimen collection processes.

    + Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and butterfly needles.

    + Understand and execute physicians' orders accurately.

    + Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required.

    + Ensure test requisitions or computer labels match scripts for accuracy.

    + Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature.

    + Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.

    + Handle telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.

    Essential Skills

    + Proficient in phlebotomy and patient care.

    + Experience in blood draw, venipuncture, and specimen processing.

    + Ability to work with diverse populations, including pediatric and geriatric patients.

    + Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.

     

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Valid Phlebotomy certification for the state of employment, as required.

    + Minimum of 6 months' work experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.

    + High School Diploma or GED with 0-2 years of relevant experience.

    Work Environment

    The role is situated in a fast-paced laboratory or hospital setting, requiring adherence to strict protocols for specimen handling and storage. The position involves interacting with patients and medical staff, necessitating clear communication and adherence to safety regulations. The work environment demands professionalism and the ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract position based out of Gastonia, North Carolina.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $19.00/hr.
