    Job Title: Land Survey Crew ChiefJob Description

     

    We are seeking an experienced Land Survey Crew Chief to lead a team on projects throughout the Southeastern region. The position is based out of the Wilmington office, supporting projects along the coast of North Carolina. The ideal candidate will work independently and lead a small team of two individuals, ensuring high-quality, accurate, and thorough work that meets regulatory standards.

    Responsibilities

    + Locate, review, and research job locations to identify landmarks, physical objects, and significant land changes affecting the survey.

    + Supervise the survey crew, evaluate priorities, and coordinate work efforts.

    + Oversee the standard of work performed and derive necessary field calculations.

    + Ensure that angles, distances, and other collected information are accurate and conform to regulations and standards.

    + Coordinate findings with engineering personnel, clients, and others involved in projects.

    + Research previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to gather necessary data.

    + Determine methods and procedures for establishing or reestablishing survey control.

    + Maintain accurate notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.

    + Complete daily logs and expense reports.

    + Ensure all crew members follow safety procedures and complete safety forms.

    + Consult with computer operators to review the final production of work performed.

    + Maintain familiarity with commonly used surveying terms and care for survey tools and equipment.

    + Operate survey equipment such as the Total Station/Data Collector, Level, and various GPS methods.

    Essential Skills

    + 3+ years of progressive experience in survey field operations, with at least 2 years as an Instrument Operator.

    + Proficiency with survey equipment including total stations, data collectors, and GPS equipment.

    + Good technical skills with a process-oriented, steady, and analytical approach.

    + Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.

    + Must have a valid driver's license and an acceptable motor vehicle record.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

    + Experience with land surveying, utility locating, and use of Civil 3D software.

    + Knowledge of topography, ALTA, topographic surveys, hydro surveys, and various surveying methods.

    + Some overnight travel may be required.

    Work Environment

    The position is based in Wilmington, NC, with the majority of the time spent in the field. Travel within the region (NC, SC, VA) may be required, with compensation and accommodation provided for overnight stays. The primary workload is within a daily commute, but travel is expected up to 60%.

     

    Job Type & Location

     

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Wilmington, North Carolina.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $30.00/hr.
