Position Overview
Our client is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team in a hybrid role that combines field surveying support with civil construction inspection. This position offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both disciplines, with approximately 70% of responsibilities focused on surveyor assistant duties and 30% on construction inspection tasks.
This role is designed to support professional growth, with training provided to advance toward a Crew Chief or Experienced Civil Construction Inspector position. INDOT certification is a key milestone, with the cost for certification covered.
Key Responsibilities
Surveyor Assistant (70%)
+ Assist with land, boundary, topographic, and construction surveys.
+ Operate surveying instruments including total stations, GPS receivers, and levels.
+ Transport and maintain equipment; record accurate field notes.
+ Mark survey points and assist with construction layout.
+ Perform basic calculations and interpret site plans.
+ Follow safety protocols and site procedures.
Construction Inspector (30%)
+ Inspect civil infrastructure projects including roads, sidewalks, and underground utilities.
+ Monitor contractor compliance with project specifications and regulations.
+ Document daily construction activities and site conditions.
+ Communicate with contractors, engineers, and project managers.
+ Review plans and report findings professionally.
Qualifications
+ Prior experience or formal education in surveying or construction inspection (fieldwork or classroom-based).
+ High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in geometry, trigonometry, or drafting is a plus.
+ Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and navigate uneven terrain.
+ Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs and walk long distances.
+ Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
+ Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
+ Effective communication and teamwork skills.
+ Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, ArcGIS, or similar tools is a plus.

Work hours are flexible depending on project needs, and occasional travel may be required. The work environment is small and friendly, with employees treated like family members. There is little to no overnight travel, as the majority of work is within driving distance of the office.
Job Type & Location
This is a Permanent position based out of Indianapolis, Indiana.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $41600.00 - $62400.00/yr.
