    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    The Department of Dance at the University of North Carolina, Charlotte invites applications for a

     

    full-time Lecturer to start August 2026. The initial appointment is for a three year term, and the position is renewable.

     

    The successful candidate will teach introductory music courses for dance students, provide musical accompaniment for dance technique courses, and assist the department head with identifying and mentoring contract musicians.

     

    The successful candidate will also assist in planning and coordinating events in the department’s studio theater, maintain an on-site presence for student projects/productions, and provide mentorship and technical support for students as they navigate problem-solving, audience management, set-up, strike, and other aspects of production/performance.

     

    As a teaching-focused faculty member, our new colleague must be prepared to contribute to the department’s mission (https://coaa.charlotte.edu/dance/) , curriculum development, faculty governance, and the administrative life of the department, college, and university.

    Required qualifications:

    + Master’s degree or higher in Music or related area, or undergraduate degree and professional/performance experience as a musician commensurate with expectations of this position.

    + Demonstrated skill in teaching foundational music theory and application for undergraduates.

    + Demonstrated skill in teaching that contributes to the department’s mission.

    + Demonstrated skill in providing musical accompaniment to dance technique classes.

    + Demonstrated ability to mentor and support other musicians who accompany classes.

    + Demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, and produce performances and events.

    + Demonstrated ability to mentor student projects.

    As a full-time Lecturer, the successful candidate will:

    + Teach the department’s required Music and Dance course.

    + Provide musical accompaniment for dance classes.

    + Maintain an inventory of department instruments and sound equipment, seeing to instrument care and identifying repair and purchasing needs.

    + Identify, vet, and mentor contract musicians.

    + Coordinate and produce performances and events in the department’s studio theatre.

    + Demonstrate a commitment to collaboration and have excellent organizational and communication skills; and

    + Be reviewed annually.

    Minimum Experience / Education:

    UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned masters and/or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

    Preferred Education Skills and Experience:

    Desired additional qualifications:

    + University teaching experience.

    + Experience with sound, media, and digital technologies.

    + Experience composing music and/or sound scores for dance performance, and/or with music improvisation.

    + Professional experience with dance performance and production processes.

    + Ability to teach General Education or other courses offered by the department. In addition to General Education courses, needed contributions also include dance technology, media arts, and entrepreneurship
