Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The Accommodation Coordinator plays a critical role in providing access to students with disabilities.
The essential job responsibilities are:
+ Provide case management and direct student support as part of a collaborative team.
+ Collaborate with students with disabilities, faculty/staff, and campus partners to help ensure access by addressing physical and programmatic barriers to education.
+ Maintain accurate and confidential records, including detailed case notes, in accordance with FERPA .
+ Review documentation from multiple sources.
+ Make disability determinations.
+ In interactive meetings with students, develop and coordinate the implementation of reasonable accommodations based on the current impact of the student’s disability.
+ Manage and mitigate issues that arise regarding access and assist students in the resolution of difficulties that may arise with accommodations in the classroom or campus community.
+ Assist with office programs and initiatives, including proctoring and preparing for final exams.
+ Participate in or lead University initiatives and events to promote disability services or facilitate access, including New Student Orientation, Open Houses, and Commencement ceremonies
+ Assist with developing and presenting departmental programs and initiatives that further our mission.
+ Provide recommendations for continuous improvement to all services and to integrate practices and technology aimed at improving services and access.
+ Maintain a strong knowledge of the ADA , student rights, confidentiality practices, and evaluation practices for high-incidence disabilities.
+ Maintain working knowledge of assistive technology that is used to address functional limitations or improve the functional capabilities of students with disabilities in the classroom.
+ Participate in departmental and committee meetings.
+ Support the Director by providing departmental leadership and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Experience / Education:
+ Must have completed a Master’s Degree in a human services field, including social work, counseling, rehabilitation counseling, or a related field.
+ A minimum of 2 years of experience working with individuals with disabilities is required.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
+ Direct experience working with individuals with disabilities who are post-high school is preferable; experience working with individuals with disabilities in a higher education setting is highly desirable.
+ Case management experience
+ Excellent communication, collaborative, problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills are necessary.
+ Legal and Regulatory Knowledge: Working knowledge of the ADA and Section 504 as they pertain to considering accommodations in higher education, along with familiarity with FERPA .
+ Knowledge of assistive technology as an accommodation is helpful.
