Controller – Oil & Gas / Industrial Services

Robert Half is partnering with a rapidly growing company in Long Beach, CA, to hire a dynamic and experienced Controller. This is a critical leadership role responsible for overseeing all aspects of financial operations, reporting, strategic planning, and risk management.

This opportunity is ideal for a hands-on financial executive with a strong background in oil and gas, industrial services, or adjacent industries, who thrives in a fast-paced, growth-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Design and build a high-performing finance and accounting team, with a focus on structure, skills development, and succession planning

+ Oversee the annual budget process and long-term business planning cycles, including preparation, departmental reviews, and presentations to the board

+ Lead the development of financial reporting frameworks to monitor performance and track key metrics against strategic goals

+ Direct tax planning and compliance efforts for income, excise, and other relevant taxes

+ Manage treasury operations, including cash flow forecasting, working capital optimization, and capital efficiency

+ Evaluate and manage the organization’s capital structure, including debt management, banking relationships, and recapitalization strategies

+ Ensure clear communication with internal and external stakeholders, including regular reporting to the board of directors

+ Drive process improvement and automation initiatives to enhance reporting, compliance, and operational scalability

+ Collaborate on strategic growth initiatives, including M& A evaluation, due diligence, and integration planning

Qualifications:

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred

+ Minimum 7–10 years of progressive financial leadership experience, preferably within oil and gas, logistics, energy, or industrial services

+ Strong technical understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and corporate tax

+ Demonstrated success in leading budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning

+ Experience managing banking relationships, debt structures, and treasury functions

+ Proven track record of building and mentoring accounting and finance teams

+ Ability to lead change in a fast-paced, high-growth environment

+ ERP implementation or optimization experience is a plus

Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field; advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.

• At least 7-10 years of experience in accounting and finance, preferably in the oil and gas, chemical, or process industries.

• Proven expertise in financial analysis, reporting, and business process improvement.

• Strong knowledge of enterprise accounting systems, Microsoft Office, and industry-specific inventory systems such as Fuels Manager.

• Familiarity with local, state, and federal tax regulations and compliance requirements.

• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with a process-oriented mindset.

• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities to collaborate across teams and departments.

• Private equity experience and familiarity with mergers and acquisitions are desirable.
