    The Heavy Equipment Technical Inspector performs the full range of inspections/repairs when required on commercial vehicles, powered by internal combustion engines, gasoline, multi-fuel or diesel. Types include those of military, commercial, and industrial usage in a motor pool environment, such as trucks, and forklifts. Also, may include multi-wheel drive vehicles with standard or automatic transmission, auxiliary equipment and groundskeeping equipment and vehicles (mowers, dozers, scrapers, batwings).

    Responsibilities

    + Responsible for entire vehicle inspection to include the prime mover, power train, transmission, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical subsystems.

    + Performs vehicle classification and estimated cost of repair/damage.

    + Responsible for entire vehicle inspection using precision measuring instruments, tools, and technical manuals or commercial manual equivalent to include technical bulletins for specifications.

    + Have knowledge of teardown and fault determinations.

    + Be involved in diagnosing the source of the problem and determining the extent of repairs and make cost estimate.

    + Determines and orders repair parts for each work order using correct technical/operator

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    + High School graduate or equivalent.

    + Minimum three (3) years of experience in the repair of tactical or commercial vehicles and equipment.

    + Valid driver’s license.

    + CDL license with air brakes rating preferred.

    + Basic computer skills required.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    + Ability to obtain National Agency Check with Investigation for computer access.

    + Knowledge of tactical and commercial vehicle and equipment maintenance.

    + While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit and talk or hear. The employee may use repeated motions that include the arms, wrists, hands and/or fingers. The employee is occasionally required to walk, stand, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision.

    + PPE usage is required.
