Stony Brook University School of Medicine of the State University of New York invites applications for the position of Nurse Practitioner as part of a dedicated Rapid Response team.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
+ Provide direct patient care to adult inpatients in acute deterioration/crisis situations (Code Rapid Response, Code Blue) and coordinate care with a multi-disciplinary team including physicians, APPs, RNs, respiratory therapists and radiology technicians.
+ Identify patients at risk for clinical deterioration through the use of the Medical Emergency Warning System and hospital rounding and discuss with the primary team to prevent crisis/cardiac arrest.
+ Provide consultation upon request by nursing, physician staff, and other members of the care team with clinical concerns of impending deterioration.
+ Maintain and facilitate professionalism and communication throughout the management of an acute event.
+ Ensure appropriate patient care and monitoring remains until the emergency has resolved or the patient is transferred to a higher level of care.
+ Participate in quality improvement efforts including, but not limited to, documentation and data collection on all rapid responses.
+ Provide education in rapid response and code resuscitation to nursing and medical staff as part of the team of experts, to improve the overall process and patient outcomes.
+ Perform various procedures including, but not limited to, arterial and central venous cannulation.
+ Maintain a level of professional expertise by participating in research, medical education in critical care/emergency management and provide mentorship to nursing and resident staff.
Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Master's degree in Nursing. NYS Nurse Practitioner license and certification in adult and/or acute care. BLS/ACLS certified. Minimum of 5 years of current tertiary care experience as an NP in acute care. Must have strong communication skills and the ability to practice independently.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Additional years of related experience in rapid response/emergency management/critical care. Strong critical care skills and the abiity to lead in a crisis.
