Designed with both innovation and compassion in mind, the blood bank features a dedicated donor room, providing a comfortable and efficient environment for therapeutic phlebotomy services.
As the Methuen Hospital Lead Medical Technologist, you will assist the Blood Bank Supervisor in day-to-day operations. Serves as department contact in the manager's absence. You are expected to demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills while fostering a collaborative and respectful work environment. You will play a key role in resolving complex patient testing, communicating with physicians, and staff, using appropriate channels of communication and sound professional judgment.
Responsibilities:
+ Ability to function in all areas of the Blood Bank: serological testing and donor services.
+ Responsible for performing high-complexity testing.
+ Performs quality control procedures, instrument checks and troubleshooting problems.
+ Demonstrates knowledge of expected lab values for the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patient.
+ Notifies patient care units and/or physicians of critical lab values, delays in testing and or availability of blood products.
+ Maintains accurate laboratory records on procedures performed for statistics and billing.
+ Meets current documentation standards and policies.
+ Interacts professionally with the Director of Laboratory Services, Pathologists, and clinical laboratory personnel.
+ Consults with other departments, as appropriate, to collaborate on patient care and performance improvement activities.
+ Maintains current knowledge of hospital policy, CAP, TJC, state, and other regulatory requirements.
+ Demonstrates the ability to be flexible, organized and function under stressful situations.
+ Monitors quality control for the department through weekly reviews. Submits data monthly for peer comparisons.
+ Monitors instrument maintenance and sign off maintenance sheets monthly. Ensure that maintenance is performed and that records are up-to-date.
+ Demonstrates proficient use of the Laboratory Information System, instrument-specific software and other software in use in the laboratory
+ Assists with result review, semiannual equipment maintenance and functional testing associated with updates.
+ Provides and facilitates training, as necessary, for students, new technologists, and current technologists on new procedures. Takes initiative in identifying needs or opportunities for improvement within the department and develops recommendations.
+ Performs competency assessments of staff, assists supervisor with preparation of inspections and performance improvement activities.
+ Assumes a leadership role in the absence of the supervisor.
Required:
+ BS in Medical Technology or equivalent.
+ Two or more years of hospital experience.
+ Previous supervisory experience is desirable.
+ MT (ASCP) or equivalent required
