Responsibilities*
+ Under physician supervision, coordinates care of pediatric otolaryngology patients in the inpatient and Operating Room settings. Specifically, role requires clinician to perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic tasks associated with pediatric patients undergoing otolaryngological surgical procedures as well as those patients requiring complex medical care for otolaryngologic disease.
+ Maintain expertise in the care of children with tracheotomies, including preoperative evaluation and parent/patient education for patients who are candidates for tracheotomy, care of children with existing tracheotomies, and patients undergoing inpatient decannulation.
+ Complete detailed histories and physicals for new admissions and present pertinent data to the medical staff.
+ Complete preoperative history and physicals as needed on the day of surgery, prescribe discharge medications, and assist with discharge orders.
+ Order and interpret reports from diagnostic lab tests, radiographic procedures, and clinical studies.
+ Perform various diagnostic, therapeutic, and minor surgical procedures.
+ Assist attending physicians in orientation of new resident physicians to the service and assist in maintaining continuity of care.
+ Confer with attending physicians and communicate with other care providers/consultants to coordinate clinical care, including the stable ventilator unit, Perioperative unit (preop, OR, and PACU), and intensive care units (PCTU, PICU, NICU).
+ Maintain accurate documentation regarding patient status, evaluations, and treatment.
+ Streamline the patient transfer process between levels of care, including writing transfer and discharge orders and communicating specific patient needs to team members.
+ Assist with developing and maintaining order sets in electronic medical record for pediatric otolaryngology patients
+ Demonstrated high level of motivation to learn and to participate in activities to improve patient care.
+ Use high level of critical thinking and medical knowledge by incorporating current medical information and scientific evidence for patient care
+ Develop competencies and coordinate training for inpatient nursing and multidisciplinary staff who provide care for children with airway disorders and/or tracheotomies
+ Update training materials for training and education of parents and legal guardians of children with airway disorders and/or tracheotomies
+ Maintain knowledge of medical principles, practices, and standards in accordance with UMHS policies and procedures, Medical Staff Bylaws and State and Federal laws/regulations.
+ Work collaboratively with staff in the Pediatric Otolaryngology Ambulatory Care Unit to coordinate care across the inpatient and outpatient spectrum.
+ Demonstrate heavy emphasis on patient and family centered care.

+ Participate in activities that promote professional growth and self-development.
+ Attend conferences and continuing education/staff development programs to maintain knowledge of current literature.
+ Attend in-services and other meetings.
+ Keep current with relevant medical literature to assist with updating and developing hospital policies relevant to pediatric otolaryngology.
+ Perform other related duties as required.
Required Qualifications*
NP
+ Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse and specialty certification as a NP in the State of Michigan.
+ Current specialty certification to practice as a Pediatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner, or Family Nurse Practitioner.
+ If Pediatric Primary Care Nurse Practitioner of Family Nurse Practitioner must have 2 years of inpatient pediatric clinical experience.
+ Graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
+ Certification as a Nurse Practitioner recognized by the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).
+ Minimum of one year of work experience as a Pediatric APP in a pediatric clinical practice area
PA
+ Current license to practice as a Physician Assistant in the State of Michigan.
+ Satisfactory completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or one of its predecessor agencies, CAHEA or CAAHEP.
+ Certification by the National Commission on Certification for Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
+ Minimum of one year work experience as a Pediatric APP in a pediatric clinical practice area
Required Qualifications for both NP and PA candidates:
+ Minimum of 2 years of pediatric clinical experience within the past 5 years
+ Pediatric Advance Life Support Certification (PALS) - can be obtained post hire as part of credentialing

Desired Qualifications*
+ Desired Qualifications (NP & PA): 3 or more years of experience as an NP or PA
+ Pediatric intensive care experience as an APP or RN for 2 years
+ Pediatric cardiology experience as an APP or RN for 2 years
+ Surgery experience as an APP or RN for 2 years
+ Experience with a multidisciplinary team approach to patient care
+ Excellent computing skills
+ Demonstrated ability to positively contribute to a group/ICU setting.
+ Demonstrated clinical leadership and experience with coordinating and managing complex and multifaceted projects.
+ Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a collaborative team is required
+ Demonstrated high level of motivation to learn and to participate in activities to improve patient care.
+ Ability to prioritize assignments and manage a busy work environment.
+ Demonstrated ability to collaborate clinical care ideas across multiple patient care services and to communicate assertively as a patient advocate.
+ Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills, organization and problem-solving skills.
