What you'll do...
Walmart is seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Communications within the International Communications team to lead communications coordination with our international markets, as well as media engagement and storytelling across the business. This role is integral to captivating worldwide audiences and establishing Walmart as an unrivaled global brand by proactively sharing our story and ensuring seamless collaboration with in-market communications teams. As a member of the Global Communications team, you will support our vision to position Walmart as a force for good and a brand that brings people and communities together to drive positive change. + **Embrace AI-Driven Transformation:** As a leader in Global Communications, you will be expected to champion the thoughtful integration of artificial intelligence into the way we work—helping our team evolve, adapt, and lead in an increasingly AI-enabled communications environment.
+ **Driving Innovation:** Stay informed on AI trends and emerging technologies relevant to corporate communications, media relations, content creation, and reputation management.
+ **Strategic Application:** Identify practical ways to incorporate AI tools to enhance storytelling, streamline workflows, personalize communications, and measure impact more effectively.
+ **Ethical Stewardship:** Ensure the responsible use of AI in alignment with Walmart's values, privacy and copyright standards, and transparency expectations—balancing innovation with integrity.
+ **Capability Building:** Lead and develop teams to build confidence and competence in AI tools, fostering a culture of curiosity and continuous learning.
+ **Productivity and Performance:** Leverage AI to drive efficiency, reduce repetitive work, and free up capacity for higher-level strategic thinking and creativity.
+ **Integrated Brand-First Enterprise Storytelling:** Bring our International narrative to life through media stories that highlight Walmart’s impact, innovation, and commitment to customers, associates, and communities around the world. Work with peer teams within International and Global Communications to extend those stories beyond media into internal channels across the enterprise—so we inspire associates and build them as brand ambassadors.
+ **Leading Through Influence with Market Teams:** Invest in relationships with in-country communications teams, contributing to collaboration as a true international communications team. Work closely with communications leads in each international market to identify compelling stories, align messaging, and support local initiatives with global relevance.
Media Relations:
+ Serve as the primary point of contact for media requests related to Walmart International. Evaluate, prioritize, and coordinate responses, ensuring alignment with business objectives and brand standards.
+ Pitch relevant stories to media outlets aligned with our International narrative.
+ Build relationships with media: Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, influencers, and media outlets covering health and wellness topics.
+ Media vetting: Partner with functional teams to rigorously assess and vet media inquiries, minimizing risk and maximizing opportunities for positive exposure. Collaborate with stakeholders such as Legal, Ethics and Compliance, Investor Relations, Corporate Affairs, and other teams as needed.
+ **Spokesperson Preparation:** Prepare and support Walmart leaders as spokespeople, developing briefing materials, talking points, and providing media training as required.
+ **Crisis Communication:** Partner with in-market and global teams, as well as the Walmart Press Office, on sensitive issues, ensuring timely and coordinated communication.
+ **Content Development:** Craft brand-first media materials, press releases, social media posts, op-eds, and other digital content to drive engagement and reinforce Walmart’s reputation.
+ **Measurement & Reporting:** Track media coverage and sentiment, providing regular analysis and actionable insights to the leadership team.
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field; advanced degree a plus.
+ 7+ years of progressive experience in communications, with significant time spent in media relations and corporate storytelling.
+ Demonstrated experience with global or international organizations preferred.
+ Exceptional writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
+ Proven ability to build relationships and work cross-functionally in a matrixed environment.
+ Experience managing issues and crisis communications.
+ Strong project management and organizational skills.

Live Better U is a Walmart-paid education benefit program for full-time and part-time associates in Walmart and Sam's Club facilities. Programs range from high school completion to bachelor's degrees, including English Language Learning and short-form certificates. Tuition, books, and fees are completely paid for by Walmart.
Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment. Benefits are subject to change and may be subject to a specific plan or program terms.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00-$220,000.00
Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses.

Minimum Qualifications...

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Business, or related field and 5 years’ experience in public relations, communications, or relevant area OR 7 years’ experience in public relations, communications, or relevant area.
2 years’ supervisory experience or experience leading cross-functional teams.
