Position Summary
This is a non-licensed position that requires on-the-job training and works under the supervision of licensed wound care professionals, including RNs, therapists, and physicians. The Wound Care Tech assists with direct patient care in a clinical wound care setting and is responsible for a variety of support tasks that ensure safe, effective, and efficient operations.
Primary duties include preparing and cleaning treatment areas, monitoring patients, obtaining and documenting vital signs, applying and removing dressings, and managing supplies through Materials Management. The role also requires competence in:
+ Photographing wounds and uploading images into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
+ Using aseptic and sterile techniques
+ Handling and preparing skin substitutes
+ Collecting specimens
+ Applying compression wraps, negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), and total contact casting
+ Educating patients on wound care procedures
+ Additional responsibilities may include crash cart safety checks, administrative support, and other duties as assigned by the clinic manager.
Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, an individual must meet each essential duty and complete required competency validations by a Certified Wound Ostomy Nurse (CWON) within 90 days of hire.
Required
+ High school diploma or equivalent
+ Current BLS certification
+ Strong computer and documentation skills
+ Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
+ Effective communication and teamwork skills
+ Ability to manage time and tasks independently
Preferred
+ Associate degree
+ At least 6 months of experience in a healthcare setting
