    This recruitment will be used to fill up to two full-time Graphic Designer position’s for the Department of Athletics at Oregon State University ( OSU ).

     

    The mission of the OSU Department of Athletics is to Go Build Excellent, Authentic, Visionary Student-Athletes (GO B.E.A.V.S.).     Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director (AD) for Marketing & Fan Engagement, the Graphic Designer is a member of the Beaver Creative department and is responsible for the creation and delivery of innovative and on-brand visual assets for use across a broad array of platforms. Additionally, this position will serve as the brand expert, overseeing and enhancing the visual brand of Oregon State Athletics. This individual will use their leadership, organizational and project management skills to ensure that all project timelines are met and will be responsible for supervision of design students.

    Key Responsibilities

    45% CREATIVE DESIGN WORK

    This role will manage a high volume of graphic design work for the athletic department, with a prioritized focus on supporting the creative needs that align with the external unit’s focus on revenue generation and branding. This position will effectively communicate with other external staff members to design creative assets and content for our digital platforms, including social media, email, website and mobile; and is the lead on design concept art for assigned brand campaigns.

     

    Utilizing Adobe Creative Suite, this position will design content that demonstrates an understanding of design principles, as well as the ability to continuously adapt style based on trends while maintaining brand consistency across various platforms. Key duties include designing special logos, apparel graphics, game-day visuals, print marketing materials and facility brand elements.

     

    Works with Beaver Creative and other staff to create templates for social media, website, videoboard and email templates. Works as the liaison to digital advertising partners, delivering the assets needed for effective campaigns.

    25% BRANDING

    Oversee and enhance the visual identity of Oregon State Athletics. Utilizing expertise in design elements and understanding of brand identity, creates a brand playbook that is used department-wide. Stays current on industry trends and effectively recommends strategies to senior leadership to enhance exposure for the Athletic Department. Maintains brand consistency and has the ability to execute on bold visions for facility, team uniform and special apparel projects.

     

    The Graphic Designer will collaborate with external staff to assist with the direction of creative content shoots, including photo and video, ensuring that assets captured will align with brand campaigns and initiatives.

    20% SUPERVISION / LEAD WORK

    Provides leadership and supervision for a staff of 5-10 design students. Plans and assigns work projects. Communicates with each individual on a routine basis. Encourages and participates in activities that foster an environment that is diverse, equitable, inclusive, and fosters a sense of belonging for both student athletes, student workers, colleagues, and all stakeholders.

     

    Cultivates an environment that encourages creativity. Successfully monitors progress and provides feedback in a timely manner. Hires and fires. Assigns and approves work projects, with the capability to provide constructive feedback and demonstrate Adobe Creative Suite skills. Responds to grievances. Completes performance reviews for assigned staff.

    10% DEPARTMENT / CAMPUS LIAISON

    Communicates and collaborates on a routine basis with units within the athletic department, university marketing and the OSU Foundation. Generates, presents and encourages new ideas, then sees them through to the design implementation. Maintains an organized system of design files and assets, ensuring others can access what is needed for them to their jobs effectively.

     

    What We Require

     

    4+ Years of Graphic Design experience OR Associates Degree + 3 years of Graphic Design experience OR Bachelors Degree + 2 years of Graphic Design experience Degree may be in Graphic Design, Graphic Art, Fine Art, or closely related field.

    This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

     

    This position requires driving a university vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the university; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a motor vehicle history check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions as per University Policy 05-030.
