Controller – Venture Capital Firm (Bay Area)

A prestigious venture capital firm is seeking a Controller to join its Bay Area office (hybrid, minimum three days in-office). This is a high-impact role for a finance professional who thrives in entrepreneurial environments and wants to help scale a best-in-class finance function.

About the Role:

You’ll work closely with the CFO to lead financial operations, reporting, and compliance. This role offers visibility across the firm and the opportunity to shape infrastructure as the organization grows. Ideal for someone with venture capital experience who enjoys both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.

Key Responsibilities:

+ Oversee fund administration, audits, tax compliance, and valuations

+ Lead budgeting, cash forecasting, and management company reporting

+ Maintain systems for deal tracking, legal documentation, and portfolio performance

+ Prepare financial materials for LPs and internal stakeholders

+ Manage compliance processes and regulatory filings

+ Support fundraising efforts and investor communications

Requirements

What We’re Looking For:

+ 3–5 years in a Controller or similar role at a VC Firm

+ Deep expertise in fund accounting, financial reporting, and compliance

+ CPA required, CFA or MBA a plus

+ Proven ability to improve processes in fast-paced environments

+ High integrity, attention to detail, and collaborative mindset

+ Comfortable in a lean, entrepreneurial setting with a hands-on approach
