Health Information/ Medical Records Specialist
Job Description
The Health Information Specialist is responsible for processing requests for medical information by reproducing medical records and providing these to the appropriate parties. This role also involves performing various clerical duties as assigned.
Responsibilities
+ Maintain, update, file, and retrieve medical records in accordance with established procedures.
+ Account for and verify forms/documents, researching previous patient records and consolidating them into a single unit record.
+ Investigate incomplete or missing records, following up with physicians, nursing units, and departments to ensure completion of necessary documentation.
+ Ensure confidentiality by adhering to established codes and release confidential health information according to policies, procedures, and State and Federal regulations.
+ Screen, accept, and comply with subpoenas following departmental guidelines.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in medical records and health information management.
+ Knowledge of Release of Information (ROI) processes.
+ Familiarity with HIPAA Regulations and electronic medical records.
+ Proficiency in handling subpoenas related to medical records.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ A minimum of 2 years of experience in medical records management.
Work Environment
This is a contract assignment in health information for a duration of 4 to 6 months, with the possibility of transitioning to a different department within the company. The work schedule is Monday through Friday, with options for shifts starting at 7:00 AM, 8:00 AM, 9:00 AM, or 10:00 AM, and ending 8 hours later, inclusive of a 30-minute lunch break. This position is fast-paced and requires working independently.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $23.00/hr.
