Marathon Petroleum Company LP is seeking a skilled and safety-focused Mechanical and Vapor Control Services (MVCS) Technician to support operating facilities in El Paso, Texas. This role i s responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, instrumentation, and vapor control systems at light product and asphalt terminals. This role supports terminal operations by ensuring equipment reliability and operational efficiency, often working beyond the scope of standard terminal personnel capabilities.
Technicians must be able to pass the DOT Medical Guidelines required to operate the maintenance vehicles. Equipment typically maintained by mechanical technicians includes vapor control systems, oil/water separators, water accumulation tanks, pumps, motors, asphalt mills, meters, actuators, etc. This position will be expected to develop proficiency in PLC and electrical troubleshooting associated with vapor control systems. Additional electrical and instrumentation maintenance and troubleshooting will be required at times to supplement the Electr onic Services technician located at another facility .
Although technicians have assigned areas of coverage, they may be requested to assist other mechanical or electrical technicians, complete project work, or provide training to others outside their assigned geographical area. They must develop and maintain an effective working relationship with terminal operations personnel , refinery maintenance personnel, and peers. Technicians must be highly motivated, self- directed and have strong decision-making skills . A maintenance truck with crane , tools, equipment, and uniforms are provided.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ Inspection & Diagnostics:
+ Inspect equipment and apply operating and performance tests to mechanical/electrical components to determine causes of malfunctions and operating deficiencies. Based on inspection outcomes, determine the extent and feasibility of repairs and recommend replacement or retention of components.
+ Diagnose malfunctions and recommend repairs or replacements based on reliability, cost, and safety.
+ Maintenance & Repair:
+ Disassemble, recondition, and replace parts for mechanical and electrical systems based on as-found conditions or symptoms.
+ Provide after- hours support for terminal operations, including emergency troubleshooting and system recovery.
+ Installation & Configuration:
+ Install mechanical and electrical components, including PLCs, control systems, and instrumentation, including device configuration, functional testing and commissioning activities.
+ Set up process control PLCs, software, cabling, and network hardware.
+ Purchase or request stocks of spare parts, supplies and materials.
+ Preventive Maintenance:
+ Perform preventive maintenance and performance tests on mechanical, electrical, and electronic components.
+ Schedule and perform routine inspections and testing using manuals, drawings, and diagnostic tools.
+ Maintain equipment in optimal operating condition through proactive servicing.
+ System & Record Management:
+ Use PC-based maintenance management systems (e.g., Mobility) to update work orders, track equipment history, and report issues.
+ Maintain all inspection records and trip log information as required by DOT.
+ Collaboration & Support:
+ Work with engineers, project managers, suppliers, and contractors to support installations and resolve issues.
+ Work with operations and purchasing personnel, suppliers and contractors’ representatives to purchase parts, supplies and materials; and to arrange for performance of services, discuss contract work and resolve problems.
+ Provide training for adjacent groups and terminal personnel.
+ Assist other technicians and support cross-functional projects across geographical areas.
QUALIFICATIONS:
+ High School Diploma or GED equivalent required .
+ Minimum 2 years of experience in mechanical systems maintenance is preferred. Terminal operations, electrical, or PLC programming experience preferred.
+ Technical training or degree in a related field is preferred.
+ Excellent mechanical and electrical aptitude is strongly preferred.
+ Intermediate proficiency with Windows-based PCs and mobile technology required .
+ Driver’s license required .
+ Willingness to travel up to 25- 50% and provide flexible support for shift-based operations.
+ Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in a safety-critical environment.
