About the Opportunity

The Analyst develops or aids in the development of short-, medium- and long-term load forecasts vital to the planning and operation of the transmission system. The analysts also become the subject matter expert about inputs to the forecast as well as the owner of the output of the forecast and how it gets used throughout the company. The team of load forecasters is also responsible for preparing timely and accurate energy, peak load, and forecasts for used by the Regional Transmission Organization or PJM.
Responsibilities include:
+ Support the business analyst in developing the load forecast process including but not limited to the development of forecast timelines, required data and QC process associated with preparing the input data for forecast, approvals and forecast report preparation.
+ Evaluate forecast input data for accuracy, with the ability to detect trends and outliers.
+ Optimize data to build and test machine learning algorithms, forecasting/predictive algorithms, and optimization models
+ Able to identify patterns and trends from complex data, and able to mine complex data
+ Perform hands-on text, quantitative, statistical, financial, and operational analysis
+ Support regulatory filings/reporting related to forecasts
+ Providing excellent customer service through timely and accurate information, analysis and reporting
+ Operate forecasting software and understand strengths and weaknesses of the software
+ Offer ideas and suggestions to improve complex work processes and projects
+ Supporting the tracking and analysis of the financial key performance indicators
+ Developing effective working relationships with employees at all levels of FirstEnergy including Distribution forecast and planning, Transmission planning, corporate Budget, Forecast, Planning, and PJM sub-committee.
+ Understanding the financial and strategic goals of FirstEnergy
+ Engaging with corporate forecasts to perform various customer analyses by effectively compiling, analyzing and comparing large volumes of billing data
Qualifications
+ Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Business, Finance or related discipline required. Advanced degree a plus.
+ Minimum 2-4 years relevant work experience is required. Relevant work experience includes working knowledge of in-depth data analysis, reporting and forecasting processes, rate and regulatory filings, or financial statement analysis. In lieu of a degree, a minimum of 7 years relevant work experience.
+ Experience with conventional statistical techniques, machine learning models, and deep learning models.
+ Experience in at least one programming language, such as Python, VBA, or a statistical software package
+ Experience with SQL
+ Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access), PowerBI.
+ Experience working with large datasets including gathering and interpreting data from many sources related to customer, economic, census, energy use and production information.
