    Position Summary

    The apprenticeship position is a developmental role to act as a pipeline for future multi-craft technicians. The program consists of those that are enrolled in a technical 2-year degree that will attend school and work for the Wilson plant as an apprentice in our maintenance department. The maintenance department will assign a mentor(s) to the apprentice who will then help the apprentice develop the skills needed to be successful as a technician in our facility. The program is a hybrid program, as such it may be completed by completing 6000 hours of OJT, or completing tasks outlined in the program and showing competence in each task outlined. Once completed, the apprentice will have a journeyman’s license in industrial maintenance as well as an associate in a related technical field. The apprentice will then enter the maintenance program as a tech level 1 and will be allowed to apply to become a full-fledged BMT under the Stang assessment process.

    Responsibilities

    Bridgestone provides an excellent learning environment for students of Industrial Technology Engineering programs. Under guidance of the senior maintenance staff, students will be assigned to maintenance teams associated with ongoing production and repair programs in our high-speed production facility. The work requires an apprentice be able to learn to troubleshoot, repair and maintain electrical circuits, hydraulic/ pneumatic systems, conveyor systems as well as learn to use software to troubleshoot advanced electronics and network issues. Below is a sample of what they will be expected to learn and perform as apprentices:

     

    + Read blueprints, schematics (including electrical), wiring diagrams, technical manuals, etc.

    + Maintains various activity records and logs.

    + Observe equipment or machinery while in operation to detect malfunctions.

    + Disassemble mechanical equipment, identify faulty/worn parts, replace, reassemble, and test.

    + Test major subsystems or components to localize problem using specialized equipment.

    + Fabricate replacement parts which may require welding, cutting, or sheet metal work.

    + Perform preventive maintenance on various mechanical systems and equipment.

    + Responsibilities include trouble shooting, and maintaining, mechanical equipment, piping systems, electrical controls/components in accordance with manufacturer’s specification, local regulations and Bridgestone safety policies.

    + Performs preventive and predictive maintenance schedules on mechanical equipment such as pumps, motors, blowers and electrical controls.

    + Working knowledge and skills in operating a variety of small hand tools and devices used in general mechanical maintenance operations.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Must be at least 18 years old

     

    Be enrolled or completed an Industrial technology degree with Pitt Community College, Nash Community College, Wilson Community College or Wayne Community College
