    Duties Description Under the direction of a higher-level Site Manager, the selected candidate will perform journey-level and semi-skilled work, maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair activities in a variety of trades such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, masonry, and mechanical at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site. Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:• Will lay out work following blueprints, specifications, oral or written instruction; diagnose problems; draw rough sketches or prepare plans to scale; make detailed estimates for costs, including time and materials for various projects and order supplies as needed and follow all purchasing guidelines. • May supervise lower-level staff to include evaluation and review of work product• Must participate in general event set up and take down of tents, tables, chairs, and other necessary equipment as operationally needed; assists with traffic control and parking of vehicles;• Must participate in general event set up and take down of tents, tables, chairs, and other necessary equipment as operationally needed; assists with traffic control and parking of vehicles• Perform routine maintenance on a variety of power-driven mechanical equipment including trucks, tractors, mowers, and power saws;• Operate self-propelled equipment; loads and unloads cargo from vehicles and storage; performs building ground maintenance, and cleaning activities; • Performs snow removal, using truck mounted plows, loaders, snowblowers and shoveling, as well as treating roads and paths as necessary;• Performs hazardous tree assessment, removal, and pruning activities involving the operation of chainsaws, stump grinders, bucket trucks and chippers;• Assists in repairing roads, paths, bridges, picnic tables, benches, trails, and other site equipment; maintaining, restoring, and repairing historic canal structures and assists in other areas of site operations as required. • Inspects playground and safety equipment and ensures functionality of the site’s water systems;• Performing other related duties as assigned.

     

    Minimum Qualifications Non-competitive: four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.*If verifiable, we will accept and prorate appropriate part-time and volunteer experience.
