    DISCOVER THE OPPORTUNITY TO

    + Receive, sort, and distribute incoming and outgoing mail to ensure timely delivery across the agency;

    + Operate mail processing equipment, including postage meters and inserters, to prepare outgoing materials;

    + Scan and organize essential documents for the Retirement and Healthcare divisions;

    + Print, package, and prepare large-scale mailings for statewide payroll, retirement, and accounts payable communications;

    + Pick up and deliver mail to local post offices and agency offices as needed;

    + Maintain accurate records of mail activity and assist with basic equipment upkeep.

    The Office of the State Comptroller (OSC) is an agency whose mission is to provide accounting and financial services, administer employee and retiree benefits, develop accounting policy and exercise accounting oversight, and prepare financial reports for the state, federal and municipal governments, and the public.

    PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

    In a state agency this class is accountable for independently performing a full range of tasks in the receipt, processing, and distribution of mail.

    EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

    + Sorts, distributes, and routes incoming and interoffice mail;

    + Operates automatic postage application equipment, mail inserters, and weight scales;

    + Weighs and stamps postaged, franked, or metered mail;

    + Drives state vehicles in the delivery of United States and interagency mail;

    + Picks up and delivers mail at United States Post Offices;

    + Signs for insured, certified, registered, and special delivery mail;

    + Updates and maintains records;

    + Schedules vehicle maintenance;

    + Provides postal service assistance to customers;

    + May maintain daily cash records;

    + Performs related duties as required.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

    + Knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations, rates, and classes of mail;

    + Skills

    + oral and written communication skills;

    + interpersonal skills;

    + Ability to

    + follow oral and written instructions;

    + perform basic arithmetic computations;

    + utilize computer software;

    + operate computerized and mechanical postal processing equipment;

    + Mechanical ability.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS - GENERAL EXPERIENCE

    One (1) year of experience in a mail service or postal operation involving the operation and maintenance of mail service equipment.

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

    + Experience coordinating mail services and operating or maintaining mailroom equipment such as commercial printers, mail sorters, inserters, and postage meters.

    + Experience working both independently and collaboratively to meet deadlines and support team goals.

    + Experience providing customer service in a professional setting, including responding to inquiries or resolving service-related issues.

    + Experience using oral and written communication to organize tasks, relay information, and complete workflow or departmental requests accurately and on time.

    SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

    Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

    + Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.

    + A physical examination may be required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    Incumbents in this class may be required to lift moderate to heavy weight.
