Job Title: Principal Software EngineerJob Description

We are searching for a highly motivated Principal Software Engineer to take on the role of Lead Software Engineer. You will work closely with program leads, the software engineering manager, and system engineers to lead the software engineering team through the full software development lifecycle. Your role will include owning the definition, assignment, execution, and status reporting of software tasks to customers, ensuring optimum use of time and resources.

Responsibilities

+ Lead and provide technical leadership to the software engineering team, including architecture, development, and testing.

+ Work on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state-of-the-art technical and industry knowledge.

+ Contribute individually to code development and assist other software developers.

+ Communicate with program management and customers as a subject matter expert and influencer.

+ Make complex decisions based on advanced analytical expertise to develop innovative solutions.

+ Support the software engineering manager in creating staffing plans and advancing team members' careers.

+ Provide input on technical effort for bids and proposals.

+ Ensure team performance aligns with the overall goals of the business unit.

Essential Skills

+ At least 12 years of C++ development and testing experience.

+ Experience leading a team during all phases of the software development lifecycle.

+ Technical effort estimation for program management.

+ Clear verbal and written communication skills.

+ Experience with code development on Linux-based operating systems.

+ Experience with middleware/inter-process communication using a publish-subscribe pattern.

+ Experience with tools for code coverage, memory leak, and other code integrity checks.

+ Experience with Git as the version control system.

+ Familiarity with UML or other design modeling techniques.

+ Strong attention to detail and work ethic.

+ Willingness to travel (10%).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

+ Experience with Qt programming and/or Gallium.

+ Automated testing experience.

+ Working knowledge of XML XSD.

+ Familiarity with containerized environments such as Kubernetes.

+ U.S. Citizenship.

+ Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering or related discipline.

+ Ability to obtain US government clearance.

Work Environment

This is a hybrid position based in Chantilly, VA. The software engineering team consists of approximately 10-12 people. The team follows a 9/80 schedule, allowing every other Friday off.

Job Type & Location

This is a Permanent position based out of Chantilly, Virginia.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $150000.00 - $170000.00/yr.
