Dow has an opportunity for an Associate Analytical Technician at our Kankakee, IL site!
About This Role:
Supports manufacturing operations by conducting laboratory analyses, as needed, which provide critical data. Prepares samples, performs preventive maintenance of laboratory instrumentation and uses data systems to acquire data. Reports results to the client. Requires established basic laboratory skills to perform a range of routine lab activities using existing standard operating procedures and/or analytical/ scientific methods.
Responsibilities / Duties:
+ Trains to perform routine analyses under the direction of senior team member until proficiency is demonstrated.
+ Collects samples according to the Sample Plan.
+ Performs basic preventative maintenance of analytical systems.
+ Provides evaluation of validity of data for routine analyses and takes appropriate action.
+ Monitors analytical systems and escalates problems as appropriate.
+ Documents, communicates and archives analytical results and data.
+ Follows Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) and operating discipline management system (ODMS) procedures and practices for work tasks.
+ Suggests improvements to lab work processes and tools.
+ Escalates non-routine requests to appropriate team member for follow-up.
+ Performs lab housekeeping such as restocking lab inventory and cleaning.
+ Responsible for processing shipping paperwork.
Required Qualifications:
+ A minimum of a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
+ Basic knowledge of laboratory techniques (gravimetric, volumetric, and temperature measurements, etc.).
+ Willing and able to work a 12-hour rotating shift.
+ Willing and able to work weekends, and holidays, if required.
+ Willing and able to work overtime (extra hours beyond regular schedule), if required.
+ A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. Permanent residency (i.e., green card) process.
Preferred Skills:
+ An associate's degree or higher in chemistry.
+ 2+ years of relevant laboratory experience (in education or work setting)
Software experience in one or more of the following:
+ Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Outlook, Excel, etc.)
+ SAP
+ Management of Change (MOC)
+ Ability to troubleshoot analytical equipment and resolve unplanned equipment issues.
Physical Demands:
Willing and able to meet physical demands of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations:
+ Wear safety equipment, such as Safety glasses, goggles, and steel-toed shoes
+ Perform frequent bending, reaching, and lifting
+ Stand or walk for extended periods of time
+ Lift material weighing up to 25+ lb occasionally
+ Lift arms and objects above shoulder height occasionally

+ Communication: Professional communication, encompasses written, oral, visual and digital communication within a workplace context.
+ Troubleshooting:Troubleshooting is a form of problem solving, often applied to repair failed products or processes on a machine or a system. It is a logical, systematic search for the source of a problem in order to solve it, and make the product or process operational again. Troubleshooting is needed to identify the symptoms. Determining the most likely cause is a process of eliminating potential causes of a problem. Finally, troubleshooting requires confirmation that the solution restores the product or process to its working state.
+ Laboratory Analytical Techniques:Analytical technique is a method that is used to determine a chemical or physical property of a chemical substance, chemical element, or mixture. There are a wide variety of techniques used for analysis, from simple weighing to titrations (titrimetric) to very advanced techniques using highly specialized instrumentation.
+ Laboratory Safety:Laboratory safety refers to the prevention of laboratory accidents that requires great care and constant vigilance. Examples of risk factors include high and low pressures and temperatures, corrosive and toxic chemicals and chemical vapors, fire, explosions, and biohazards, including infective organisms and their toxins.
+ Computer Literacy:Computer literacy is defined as the knowledge and ability to use computers and related technology efficiently, with skill levels ranging from elementary use to computer programming and advanced problem solving. Computer literacy can also refer to the comfort level someone has with using computer programs and applications. Another valuable component is understanding how computers work and operate.
+ Attention to Detail: Attention to detail refers to being able to follow written and oral instructions as this position requires the ability to learn multiple analytical techniques, work with close attention to detail, and multi-task effectively.
