    Position Summary

    Pay rate: $24.70 - $27.75/hour upon meeting progression step requirements. MSU Benefits - Free comprehensive health care for you and your family as well as a 10% contribution toward your retirement; Generous sick, vacation, personal and holiday time; Not eligible to work a partial remote schedule. Regular in-person attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.

     

    This position will perform basic preventative maintenance for MSU fleet vehicles and equipment in the IPF Service Garage, including: changing oil, filters, grease; replacement of belts; tire service and replacement including wheel balancer and tire machine use; general lighting and basic wiring repair; requisitions materials and parts; estimates time and materials to be used on the job; prepares records and service reports of job time and materials expended; shop maintenance, general cleaning, and other duties as assigned; provide training and oversight of student support staff for lube bay operation.

    The breakdown of responsibilities is as follows:

    40%: Customer Support - Changing oil, filters, grease, tire repair/replacement, light bulb replacements, wiper replacements, process vehicles for sale, process new vehicles, prepare records and service work orders of job time and materials expended.

     

    20%: Assist mechanics when needed - Support mechanical operations by performing tasks such as bleeding brakes, lifting and positioning tires, transporting tools and equipment, acting as an extra set of hands during complex procedures, routing wires through confined or low-visibility areas, and assisting with the handling and movement of heavy components.

     

    10%: Train and oversee student support staff. Monitor equipment and tools.

     

    10%: Pick up and deliver vehicles to off-campus dealerships and vendors for scheduled service or repairs. Retrieve parts from vendors as needed to support ongoing vehicle maintenance. Assist with general shop upkeep, including cleaning and organizing work areas.

     

    10%: Answer shop phone, create orders, interact with and answer customer questions.

     

    10%: Correspondence through email, training, meetings and professional development.

    Minimum Requirements

    Completion of high school education or an equivalent combination of technical training and experience.

     

    One year of experience in building maintenance, construction, or automotive maintenance.

     

    Casual knowledge of methods, materials, tools, equipment, occupational hazards, and safety precautions of basic skilled trades work.

     

    Casual knowledge of applicable building codes, rules, and regulations (local, state and federal).

     

    Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license is necessary. Must drive University vehicles to perform job duties of this classification.

     

    Frequent lifting of 26 to 75 pounds and occasional lifting of over 75 pounds.

     

    Requires knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations, and the ability to use e-mail and the Internet.

    Desired Qualifications

    Ability to provide outstanding customer service; experience with automotive, light and medium duty truck maintenance, including tire service/replacement and related equipment, lube oil and filter service, battery replacement, automotive hoist operation, hand and power tool use; auto/light truck lighting services: bulbs, fuses, basic electrical wiring and component replacement; exceptional communication skills to assist customers and service garage staff.
