Introduction
At IBM, Solution Architects work to understand needs and then create complex high-quality solutions that make meaningful impact. You’ll be responsible for overall leadership and delivery of the solutions from requirement gathering through implementation. You’ll use your in-depth knowledge of leading-edge products and technologies along with industry and business skills to influence outcomes.
Your role and responsibilities
Working with a worldwide team of Solution Architects who design and build architectural solutions for real-world problems across all industries. The output is the blueprint for implementations that meet specific business needs. Primary responsibilities include providing strategic guidance during the development process, making technical decisions regarding solutions, and explaining their impact on the organization.
This role involves designing and delivering materials that support this process, including blueprint documentation highlighting repeatable architectural solutions. The focus includes AI, Agentic AI, and their role in future deliverables across the Automation Portfolio, as well as related areas such as Data, Sustainability, and Security.
You will collaborate with engineers to contribute to a library of reusable materials in the form of whitepapers, assets, and accelerators.
Required technical and professional expertise
* Strong proficiency in Java and familiarity with enterprise-level software development.
* Solid understanding of architectural design principles and solution blueprinting.
* Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
* Familiarity with AI technologies, including Agentic AI, and their integration into enterprise products.
* Knowledge of data architecture, sustainability practices, and security frameworks.
* Experience collaborating with engineering teams to develop reusable assets (e.g., whitepapers, accelerators).
* Strong communication skills to explain technical decisions and their business impact.
* Ability to work in a global, cross-functional team environment.
Preferred technical and professional experience
* Familiarity with automation tools and platforms.
* Background in developing or contributing to technical libraries or repositories.
* Experience with technical writing and producing architectural documentation.
* Exposure to sustainability and green IT initiatives.
* Knowledge of security compliance standards (e.g., ISO, NIST).
* Experience with data governance and ethical AI practices.
