    Overview

     

    The Dean of the School of Health Sciences & Practice, is expected to lead the faculty and administration of the School by providing students with the knowledge and skills necessary to make substantive contributions in their fields and to meet the challenges of a complex and changing health environment. The Dean will be responsible for leading the School to its next level of growth as an established academic enterprise capable of sustaining CEPH accreditation of our public health programs, epidemiology, and bioethics.

     

    The Dean shall report to the Vice Chancellor for Graduate and Professional Studies with a dotted line to the Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer, New York Medical College.

    Responsibilities

    + Provide visionary leadership and administrative oversight of the School of Health Sciences & Practice.

    + Develop and implement strategic and operational plans for the School that will support enrollment growth, enhance student success, and align with the College’s mission, vision and strategic plan.

    + Ensure compliance with accreditation standards.

    + Manage enrollment to make the School’s educational programs financially self-sufficient.

    + Develop a first in class program of research and promote innovation across the School.

    + Represent the interests of the faculty and present views and recommendations to the Chancellor, and to appropriate bodies, deliberating on matters of concern to the School.

    + Lead with integrity and transparency.

    + Support and engage with alumni, professional organizations, student groups, and other community interests.

    + Serve as the School’s principal representative to administration and other schools and committees of NYMC, governmental agencies and oversight bodies, students and the public.

    + Promote a culture of collaboration, inclusivity, and academic excellence.

    + Call and preside over meetings of the Academic Policy Committee and School faculty.

    + Review and recommend faculty appointments and promotions in accordance with the approved bylaws.

    + Recommend degrees for students who have fulfilled degree requirements for graduation.

    + Interact in a collegial and professional manner with all constituencies of the College as well as governmental and community health agencies.

    + Work with the Office of the Chief Development Officer to develop a fundraising plan in support of the School’s mission.

    + Work with the Dean of the School of Medicine to ensure participation in appropriate aspects of the medical school curriculum.

    + Perform other such duties as assigned by the Vice Chancellor for Graduate and Professional Studies and the Chancellor and Chief Executive Officer.

    Qualifications

    Education requirement:

    + An appropriate terminal degree for the Dean of SHSP such as a masters or doctorate in public health, rehabilitation science, physical therapy, medicine, dentistry, or other health care discipline appropriate to lead a school with degree programs in public health, physical therapy, speech pathology, epidemiology, and biostatistics.

    Prior experience:

    + A minimum of 7 years of progressive leadership experience in higher education as a Dean, Associate, Assistant or Vice Dean, Chair/Program Director, and/or Professor of an academic unit or equivalent experience in a hospital, clinic, government agency, foundation, industry, and/or not-for-profit health care or public health organization.

    + Experience working with institutional accreditors across multiple academic disciplines.

    + Demonstrated success and capacity for leadership that recognizes the challenges facing the fields of public health, epidemiology, speech pathology, physical therapy, and/or bioethics

    + Demonstrated understanding of trends in higher education, research, and clinical practice and the ability to apply that understanding to the job responsibilities.

     

    Minimum Salary

     

    USD $220,000.00/Yr.

     

    Maximum Salary

     

    USD $275,000.00/Yr.
