Position Overview

REACH Academy Charter School is seeking a full-time Building Substitute Teacher for grades 5-8 for. This position is essential to ensuring instructional continuity and academic success when classroom teachers are absent. The ideal candidate is dependable, flexible, and confident managing a middle school classroom while maintaining a positive, structured learning environment.

This role requires strong classroom management, the ability to multitask and work well under pressure, and the capacity to think on your feet especially when unexpected changes occur during the school day.

Key Responsibilities

+ Provide effective instruction and supervision to students in grades 5-8 in the absence of the regular classroom teacher.

+ Implement lesson plans and classroom routines, adapting instruction as needed when plans are missing or incomplete.

+ Maintain a calm, professional, and organized classroom environment that supports both academic and behavioral expectations.

+ Demonstrate flexibility and sound judgment when managing multiple classes or transitioning between different subject areas.

+ Communicate clearly and professionally with students, teachers, and administrators to ensure instructional consistency.

+ Troubleshoot and adapt when technology or instructional tools are unavailable or malfunctioning.

+ Support the social, emotional, and academic development of all scholars.

+ Participate in school-wide meetings, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning as required.

+ Take over a short or long term position for a teacher who may be out on leave; including working on developing lesson plans and working with your team and or coaches to develop and implement ongoing curriculum.

+ Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School.

Qualifications

+ Bachelor's degree required; NYS Teaching Certification (preferred or in progress).

+ Prior classroom teaching or substitute teaching experience, preferably in middle school (grades 5-8).

+ Proven ability to manage classrooms effectively and uphold consistent expectations.

+ Excellent multitasking skills with the ability to remain calm and effective under pressure.

+ Demonstrated ability to problem-solve and make quick, informed decisions in dynamic situations.

+ Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills.
