    Overview

     

    Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking a self-motivated and qualified Traffic Operator to join our growing Highways & Traffic Engineering team in Newark, New Jersey!

     

    The selected candidate will have the unique opportunity to serve as a Traffic Operator at a Port Authority (PANYNJ) facility in Newark with the ability to observe and track real-time traffic conditions to aid in coordinating active transportation management solutions to keep the landside roadway networking moving and enhance the customer experience. Tasks include monitoring, detecting, documenting, mitigating, and regularly disseminating information about traffic conditions to effectively maintain the transportation system through a host of events, both planned and unplanned. Position offers unique ability to work collaboratively in a dynamically changing landscape with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, first responders and law enforcement, and other partner agencies creating an invigorating career opportunity.

    Responsibilities

    + Monitor, detect, document, mitigate, and regularly disseminate information about traffic conditions to effectively maintain the transportation system through a host of events, both planned and unplanned.

    + Interface with ITS devices such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)/Variable Message Signs (VMS), Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras, and traffic signal systems.

    + Gather information from multiple sources, dashboards, and data analytics tools to make informed decisions and evaluate cause/effect relationship of actions taken.

    Qualifications

    + 1+ years of Traffic Engineering/Traffic Operations experience.

    + Bachelor's degree in civil engineering is a plus.

    + Knowledge of Traffic Engineering/Traffic Operations principles and regional transportation system/stakeholders.

    + Familiarity with the MUTCD and other transportation publications.

    + Understanding of aviation terminology and passenger and vehicular activity characteristics is a plus.

    + Strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office suite products (including Office 365).

    + Skill to gather information from multiple sources, dashboards, and data analytics tools to make informed decisions and evaluate cause/effect relationship of actions taken.

    + Ability to interface with ITS devices such as Dynamic Message Signs (DMS)/Variable Message Signs (VMS), Closed-Circuit TV (CCTV) cameras, and traffic signal systems.

    + Perform tasks effectively under pressure.

    + Effective time management and organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task.

    + Must thrive in a team setting and act with professional demeanor and positive attitude.

    + Willingness to work on-site, in-person as part of TMC team with schedule flexibility including the ability to work weekends and holidays when required.

    + Contribute equally to off-hour shifts or remote on-call support when needed in times of high volume, inclement weather, etc.

    + Valid US driver’s license is required.

    + Ability to read, write and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.

     

    Compensation: $33.00 to $35.00 per hour (depending on qualifications)
