    The Division of Primary Care Pediatrics within the Department of Pediatrics at UVA Health Children’s Hospital is dedicated to enhancing care models that increase access, improve health outcomes, and support children and families throughout Central Virginia. Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, family-centered pediatric care that integrates prevention, acute illness management, chronic disease follow-up, and health education within a collaborative, team-based environment.

     

    As part of our ongoing growth, the Division is expanding to a new clinical site—Riverside II—anticipated to open by May 2026. This state-of-the-art location will offer a traditional primary care model for established patients while also serving as a same-day access hub for acute pediatric visits from across UVA Health Children’s and the broader community.

     

    Our interprofessional team includes more than two dozen pediatricians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals who share a deep commitment to health equity, innovation, education, and quality improvement. The Riverside II site will extend UVA’s mission of delivering accessible, evidence-based, and compassionate care for every child.

     

    Shifts: Primarily weekdays with rotating evening and weekend coverage as needed to meet patient and clinic needs.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    Experience in pediatric primary care or family medicine; demonstrated proficiency in developmental screening, preventive health, and acute pediatric management; strong communication and care coordination skills; prior experience in quality improvement or population health initiatives; and a passion for interprofessional collaboration and health advocacy.

    Administration

    + **Partners with site Medical Director and clinic leadership to optimize patient flow, operational efficiency, and access to care.**

    + **Supports implementation of enhanced care delivery models designed to improve population health outcomes and patient satisfaction.**

    + **Participates in performance improvement, data reporting, and outcomes tracking for pediatric primary care quality metrics.**

    + **Ensures accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards.**

    Professional

    + **Demonstrates professionalism through effective communication, teamwork, and commitment to UVA Health’s mission and values.**

    + **Participates in interprofessional collaboration with physicians, nurses, behavioral health providers, care coordinators, and learners to ensure seamless, team-based care.**

    + **Engages in continuous professional development and educational activities, including teaching and mentoring opportunities within the Division.**

    + **Promotes health equity, inclusion, and family-centered approaches in all aspects of care delivery.**

    Clinical

    + **Provides comprehensive pediatric care, including well-child visits, immunizations, developmental and behavioral screenings, chronic condition management, and preventive counseling.**

    + **Conducts same-day sick visits, triage, and follow-up for established and new patients as part of UVA’s expanding same-day access model.**

    + **Performs acute and preventive care management guided by evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines.**

    + **Coordinates care across disciplines and settings to ensure timely referrals, follow-up, and continuity of care.**

    + **Delivers compassionate, culturally sensitive education and anticipatory guidance to patients and families.**

    + **Participates in evening and weekend coverage as needed to meet clinic and community needs.**

    Leadership

    + **Serves as a clinical and professional role model within the Division of Primary Care Pediatrics.**

    + **Contributes to ongoing efforts to enhance care models that increase access and improve outcomes for children and families.**

    + **Participates in divisional and departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning initiatives.**

    + **Provides mentorship and education to residents, students, and new staff members.**

    + **Advocates for pediatric health through community partnerships, outreach, and systems-based improvement initiatives.**

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.

     

    Experience: Department and unit specific.

     

    Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

     

    Position Compensation Range: $96,907.20 - $155,043.20 Annual
